As Yellowstone continues airing its final season, some fans were upset with how the whole Kevin Costner situation was handled. However, Cole Hauser, who plays fan-favorite character Rip Wheeler, doesn’t seem to mind Costner not being on set. Kevin was the star of the series for a long time, but after a massive amount of drama, he was written out of the show, and his character was killed off-screen. However, it seems like he is not missed within the show’s cast.
According to Radar Online, Cole Hauser is “Happy to be rid of him.” For months, Kevin Costner would allegedly be causing issues with filming and writing for Yellowstone. It was rumored that the actor wanted more money and more creative control. However, the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, would not budge. All of that, on top of personally funding his own movie, Horizon: An American Saga, was just too much for Costner. He had lost his Yellowstone cash cow, and Horizon was picked apart by the critics.
Cole Hauser Has Used Kevin Costner To Boost His Own Career
Despite Yellowstone coming to an end, the drama that took place on set seems to still be very prominent. It has been reported that Hauser would go around the set talking trash about his former mentor in Costner. These “potshots” at Kevin come after the two had a very close relationship. Cole may not be as famous as he is right now if not for Kevin. The 69-year-old allegedly took Hauser under his wing earlier in Yellowtone’s life.
Cole Hauser quickly became a star and was treated as such. Hauser was reportedly able to see the show’s full scripts, unlike his co-stars. However, this is when the actor flipped on Kevin Costner. Cole would say he loved the “fun, family atmosphere” the set had. Many seemed to see this as a dig at a very serious Costner. Hauser would then say a similar thing later on. After Costner took his leave, Cole brought up how smoothly things had run without Kevin around.
Kevin Costner was a critical part of Yellowstone for years. However, now the actor and his character have left the series. This has left the others to pick up the slack. Cole Hauser has seemingly harnessed the drama to boost his acting career. However, Yellowstone only has a few episodes left. Although the show is ending, there are still rumors of a spin-off. Will Cole Hauser take the lead for a new show?
