Kids can be rebellious and test boundaries, but no level of frustration ever justifies laying a hand on them. A woman in Portland, Oregon, may have learned this lesson the hard way: when an 11-year-old girl was sitting on her wall, she allegedly confronted and assaulted her. While the video circulating online doesn’t show the alleged assault, it captures the aftermath of the incident.
The clip takes place near the wall that the 11-year-old was sitting on, and sees a blonde woman wearing a pink top as she confronts the young girl. “Stay off of it. This is all our property. It belongs to all four of us and we have all said stay off of our property. What part of that do you not understand?” exclaims the irate woman. Casually, and while eating what appears to be a bread roll, the girl replies, “Why you touch me?“
The Oregon woman’s response hints at guilt, as she appears to admit to “touching” the girl. “I don’t care,” she says. “You wouldn’t do what I told you to do. I didn’t hurt you. I told you to get off, you would not get off. Take it up with somebody else. I don’t care.” The lady tries to explain her concern, but goes a little overboard, saying, “This is dangerous. This retaining wall is going to fall at some point, and I would be happy if you were on it, because I don’t like you. You are a nasty little girl, so stay off of our property.”
The video then jumps ahead to a moment when a couple of adults, seemingly advocating for the girl, confront the woman. “Wow, she’s just so miserable.” says one adult, while another exclaims, “I’d be miserable, too, yelling at kids like that.” However, the Oregon woman turns to the camera and explains, “Look, I offered Ashley an apology and she doesn’t want it.” The woman with the camera claps back, “That’s a child. You shouldn’t put your hands on a child. So, if it isn’t the consequences of my actions. Here we are.”
As the video continues to circulate online, netizens took to the comments to chime in with their thoughts, and some sided with the Oregon woman, while others sided with the 11-year-old girl. On Reddit, one user wrote, “Have ur mom call the cops” while another chipped in with, “The girl was sitting on a retaining wall, using it as a bench. And I can surmise that it wasn’t the retaining wall directly in front of this ladies house. I could see myself sitting on that retaining wall if I was waiting for a bus or friends. It is about bench height. Should the child have moved when asked? Yeah. But is it really that egregious? Eh. Maybe for the safety part that it might fall down, but the lady saying she hopes it falls in the kid? Super uncalled for. And then at the end the lady is mad she is drawing on the sidewalk with chalk? Yeah. Lady seems unhinged.”
However, other commenters attempted to defend the Oregon woman, with one penning, “Wait..so the child trespasses, told to move and doesn’t. Gets moved and runs and complains and then other adults come to bother the old lady?” and another replying to this with, “Don’t put your hands on other ppl. They should have had her arrested.”
No one was hurt, and the police weren’t called, but the incident shows how quickly tempers can flare, particularly over property and children not following rules.
