There are a lot of scary things happening in Florida, but one that is now worrying a lot of residents is Amendment 3. For those who’ve heard about it, you may already know that it is looking to give people a property tax cut. Yet, there might be some serious repercussions behind it, as new information suggests that if the amendment passes, several places across the state won’t have enough money to provide essential services or other things to keep people safe.

'No free lunch': Amendment 3 would cut millions from Beaches cities, forum panel says.

Despite Amendment 3 being a common topic among Floridians, it seems that it is in the spotlight today, as one report sounded the alarm for many.

As it’s been established in countless other places, Amendment 3 is looking for a way to add more tax exemptions. Yet, the above report has shared some data, and those cuts would affect a city’s budget.

According to the information, Jacksonville Beach would go from having $1,100 in its share from taxes to $291. This would eventually total a loss of $4.1 million every year for the aforementioned place. As you can see, these aren’t small numbers and could very well affect everyone greatly in the future.

For instance, while some public services would still be funded, such as police and firefighters, some worry that ocean rescue would be left behind, as it may not be considered essential with such a small budget. Keep in mind that this is just speculation from the article, but many see this as plausible, especially since the current administration has been cutting a lot of things across the country.

Ultimately, this has been a wake-up call for many Florida locals, who are now adamant about voting no on Amendment 3. Yet, there are still a few who think that the amendment should happen, as they believe Florida should learn a lesson soon.

Some Locals Think Florida Should Learn a Harsh Lesson

Many have started commenting about the domino effect that Amendment 3 will have, and how it will affect not only some of the more tourist-oriented places, but several other things, too.

“You can either pay for the streetlights, or we can turn them off.” – Jacksonville Beach City Manager Mike Staffopoulos.

Many fear voters aren’t seeing how bad Amendment 3 would be for the city, while others think it is time Florida pays for its actions, or rather, its votes.

“If it does pass, I want it to be so destructive that Florida ceases to be a state. There need to be consequences.“

As many put it, there’s still time before anything happens. Yet, one thing’s for certain: this year’s elections are going to be among the most important for the state.
