While the NYPD is often portrayed in a serious or negative light, officers do occasionally let loose and show a more playful side. Case in point, a police cruiser was caught on camera having a playful back-and-forth with a bunch of onlookers during a crowded snowball fight in New York. The footage is circulating online at the moment.
The viral footage opens in a snowy Central Park in New York City, and you can see crowds of people gathered who’re participating in a large-scale snowball fight. An NYPD police cruiser is slowly driving down the road in-between the two large crowds that have gathered, and over the PA system, you can hear the police officer inside, and what he’s saying is pretty hilarious.
As the onlookers throw snowballs at the police cruiser, the officer inside lightheartedly jokes, “You missed me. You missed me! You missed me! You guys can’t aim. That was weak!” to the delight of the crowd watching on. Many bystanders can be heard giggling at the sheer absurdity of the scene.
Of course, due to the wholesome nature of the clip, the video has managed to accrue over 1.1m views on TikTok alone, and has certainly reached viral status. On TikTok, one commenter wrote, “This is the correct way to have police interact with the community” while another chimed in with, “Ever since Mandami won, I feel like NY looks so fun 😭 I’m getting fomo.” A third netizen penned, “Awww mamdani’s New York seems so nice.” Meanwhile, over on Reddit, one thoughtful commenter declared, “Society needs law enforcement, but god damn we need them to not serve the oligarchs. Imagine a world where they actually serve and protect the people, and we actually look up to them. We get glimpses every once in a while“.
