A Louisiana hairstylist finished a client’s locs only to find out he didn’t have the money to pay her. She refused to let him leave while he waited for the payment to come through. Most viewers backed her, though some felt his previous customer history should have earned him a little more grace.
Shared to TikTok by @mendedlocs, the video shows the Louisiana stylist growing increasingly frustrated as she presses her client for answers about coming to an appointment without the means of paying for it. “Why are you here if you don’t have your money?” she asks.
She finishes his hair despite the money still being unresolved, then makes clear he isn’t leaving until she’s paid. “You not going nowhere until I get my money. Ain’t no running off,” she tells him. Visibly worn down, she adds that all of this is making her late to pick up her children, and that’s a huge issue for her.
According to her caption, she said she tries to stay professional but will always speak up when something’s wrong, and warned others to make sure they have enough money before letting someone start on their hair.
TikTok Weighs In
Safety concerns for the Louisiana stylist came up quickly, with several commenters wishing she wasn’t alone in a situation they saw as potentially volatile. “Next time, call a man up there to sit with you because these men be unhinged,” one suggested. Another admitted they were scared for her the whole time, worried the client might “turn up on her.“
A number of viewers made clear she had nothing to apologize for. “DO. NOT. APOLOGIZE. This reaction was warranted,” one wrote. Some said they’d have handled it far less patiently than she did. One argued they’d have called the police outright. Another joked they’d have started undoing the hair immediately.
One commenter framed the situation as a result of misogyny, arguing this client wouldn’t have tried this with a male stylist. “He would’ve never did that to no men in the barbershop, I can’t stand when they try to do this to women. I would’ve said you got 5 min minutes or the laws coming for theft of services. Period,” they posted.
Not everyone was fully on her side, though. One commenter pointed out that since this was reportedly the client’s third appointment with her, his track record suggested he was usually good for the money and may have simply hit an unexpected delay, while still agreeing she was right to want her payment.
Viewers ultimately felt that respecting someone’s time and work should be a given, especially when dealing with a small business owner. They put their time and effort into providing a service, so the least a person can do is make sure to have the money to pay for it.
