Netflix has released the trailer for You People (seen below), a comedy starring Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy. The first look at the love story gets into hilarious banter between the two leads and Nia Long (47 Meters Down: Uncaged) as Hill tries to convince the couple that he loves their daughter and wants to marry her.
The You People trailer unveils its humor and social commentary as it introduces some of its leads and the story to come. It follows The Wolf of Wall Street actor and Lauren London (Without Remorse) overcoming societal and familial differences and expectations as they plan on getting married. From the glimpse we got of him catching up with her parents at a restaurant to ask them about marrying their daughter, we see the disapproving feelings the parents feel about their daughter’s boyfriend.

The film was directed by Kenya Barris (Black-ish), who co-wrote with Hill. The two produced the film with Kevin Misher. Andy Berman, Mychelle Deschamps, Matt Dines, E. Brian Dobbins, Alison Goodwin, Charisee M. Hewitt, David Hyman, and Hale Rothstein served as executive producers.
The You People trailer does not showcase the cast outside of its already big leads. It will star Andrea Savage (Tulsa King), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Duchovny (The X-Files), and Rhea Perlman (Cheers).
It is not the first time the director has helmed a project, but that had been on the small screen with Black-ish and #BlackAF. His next feature will be a remake of The Wizard of Oz, which he has said will be different, particularly by how he plans on making its cast diverse with LGBT representation for a “story that reflects the world.”
With the recent trailer, you won’t have to wait long until You People hits Netflix, as it releases on January 27.
