‘You Were Raised by an Icon’: TikToker Revisits Years-Old South Dakota Bullying Incident Where Principal Told Her to Just ‘Take It’

Ideally, teachers, principals, and other school staff should protect children from bullying. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. A woman from South Dakota recently shared her experience of being bullied in school, revealing that the principal told her to “stay quiet and take it.” Instead of letting the situation go like so many others where schools fail to protect students, the mother of the bullied child stepped in to confront the principal, and it’s clear he didn’t take it well.

For context, OP recently uploaded the video, in which she recounts a story from her school days in South Dakota when she was bullied. According to the woman, there were two other girls who used to push her, make her trip, and do terrible things that made her school days horrible. Despite the OP reporting the bullying to teachers, no one did a thing.

One day, the father of one of the bullies abandoned her and the whole family, so OP decided to retaliate by saying, “You’re the reason your father left.” Of course, the bully here decided to complain to the principal, and lo and behold, he ended up calling OP and her mother to the principal’s office.

When the mother arrived, she asked why her daughter was in trouble, as she had been bullied for months. The principal said that she had crossed a line because she talked about the father abandoning the bully. Naturally, the mother thought this wasn’t fair, so she asked what her daughter was supposed to do. Here, the principal instructed her to stay quiet and take the bullying.

In any other situation, the victims and parents might have stayed quiet, moved to another school, or maybe exposed the situation to the media. Here, the mother was smarter. She stood up and started insulting the principal, calling him names, talking about his appearance, and making fun of his looks.

As you can imagine, the principal got angry, and he fired back at the mother, but the mother asked, “What? What? You’re supposed to just take it.” The principal stood quietly for a moment, sat down slowly, and told the mother she would take care of the bullying situation.

TikTok Users Praised the Actions of OP’s Mother

As soon as OP finished retelling her story, the TikToker started praising her mother, who rightfully defended her daughter and even ended up teaching a lesson to the principal.

“Ooooo, so you were raised by an icon!“

“Your mom used the UNO reverse card.”

“This is the kind of mom I strive to be.”

In the end, it’s encouraging that the mother was able to resolve the situation peacefully. Hopefully, this serves as a reminder to school staff to take bullying seriously and listen to every case.
