A video of a young boy finding himself on the wrong side of a set of revolving doors at Rainbow Bridge, Niagara Falls is going viral. In it, we see a family who are on a day out, and the child has “accidentally” entered Canada by playing with the doors at the New York/ Ontario border crossing. Making matters worse, the father of the youngster yells, “You can’t come back!” when he’s trying to figure out how to return to his family on US soil, as he attempts to push the gate.
The clip takes place at Rainbow Bridge, in front of a set of large, metal revolving doors, and is accompanied by the caption, “This boy was playing with revolving doors at the US border and accidentally went to Canada.” A mother, father, and young girl are stood on the one side of the doors, which is officially US territory. Meanwhile, on the other side of the doors stands a young boy, who is the family’s son, who is officially stood on Canadian soil.
“I’m hungry,” the youngster exclaims, as he tries to push the doors to make his way back to the US. The dad is not best pleased, though. “You’re in a different country. You can’t come back. Why would you do that?” The mother also chimes in, shaking her head, saying, “Why would you do this?” Ending the footage, the dad simply says, “You can’t” and shrugs.
As the video continues to snowball online, social media users couldn’t resist taking to the comments to air their thoughts on the amusing clip. One Redditor joked, “He deported himself“, while another added, “ICE would be proud“. A third commenter, meanwhile, penned, “I loved the question “Why would you do that?” The answer is really obvious, because they are a child and they saw the gate and thought that looks fun.”
For the unaware, the Rainbow Bridge is a steel arch bridge that connects Niagara Falls, New York (US) with Niagara Falls, Ontario (Canada). It’s quite a popular border crossing, and is open 24/7 for both pedestrians and vehicles. All it requires is a valid passport for crossing.
Ultimately, it’s worth noting that the mother and father in the footage are likely laying it on thick in a bid to teach the youngster a lesson. While it’s not been explicitly said, it’s fair to infer that the youngster was fine, and returned to his parents safely shortly after the clip. Really, though, I think it’s the parents are the ones who may’ve learnt a lesson that day as well. Seriously, folks, keep an eye on your kids at all times, especially when you’re near a border crossing!
