Zack Snyder is employing the folks at Titan Comics to publish a prequel to his upcoming Netflix flick, Rebel Moon. Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire hits the streaming service this December. Now, this prequel comic, Rebel Moon: House of Bloodaxe, will delve deeper into the Rebel Moon Universe a little later in January. The prequel comic is based on a story from Snyder and written by Mags Visaggio with art from Clark Bint. The comic is set five years before the events of the film and will help expand its characters and world.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year. The sci-fi flick features an impressive cast that includes the likes of Sofia Boutella, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, and more. The film itself looks to be an epic space adventure that follows the interstellar royal empire of the Imperium and those who stand opposed to its regime.
The film has been broken up into two parts. The first part drops on December 22, 2023. Meanwhile part two, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver drops on April 19, 2024. However, Snyder has plans for a much broader universe, turning the film into a franchise. There is already a role-playing video game in the works, as well as several novelizations and even television series.
House Of The Bloodaxe
The prequel comic dives deeper into the lives of two characters from the film. It explores the backstory of Cleopatra Coleman’s Devra Blooodaxe and Ray Fisher’s Darrian Bloodaxe. It also looks at the long history of the Bloodaxe family. An official synopsis for the book reads:
As war is looming on the horizon on the planet Shasu, the leader of the Bloodaxe family is conflicted between living up to his father’s domineering legacy and maintaining the peace. It is up to him to settle the conflicts within himself, and his family, before the entire planet erupts in war.
Writer Mags Visaggio likens the book to a Shakespearean tragedy where everything is extremely personal. They also note that it is ultimately a story about the consequences of failure. Rebel Moon: House of the Bloodaxe #1 hits shelves on 1/20 with four unique covers from different artists.
