Just as with many other services we rely on, people tend to resort to a standard tip for DoorDash drivers who make their deliveries. In the U.S., these drivers are independent contractors and it’s safe to say they rely on those tips. This is especially true when you understand they’re typically paid low base pay. A Nevada DoorDasher shares a recent experience he had with a company that chose not to tip for a massive order. It shows just how greedy some companies can be, and how considering tips doesn’t even cross their mind.
Nathan (@nathanorput3) shares a TikTok video of a massive DoorDash order he received for a company that wanted WingStop wings. The company ordered 400 wings on one page and 200 wings on the next page, which is a completely ASTOUNDING number of wings. They also ordered some sides. Nathan then shows a picture of the table when he picked up the order at WingStop. They had almost 20 large bags filled to the brim with wings and sides. It’s safe to assume Nathan had to make multiple trips to his vehicle to secure the wings inside. Nathan said the order “filled up the entire trunk” and some of the back seat.
However, what really irritated Nathan was the fact that the company that ordered through DoorDash refused a tip. They paid approximately $800 worth of wings through DoorDash and left a $0 tip. Nathan said with that type of order, people would typically tip 10%. However, he said he wasn’t “expecting” an $80 tip, because that’s quite large, even if it is fair. But to tip him absolutely nothing? In the end, Nathan made literally $3 for delivering this entire order. It’s truly not worth it.
Nathan shows that his previous order was a $17.65 McDonald’s breakfast meal order. When he arrived at the location to deliver to the customer, they tipped him $15! There’s really no excuse to not leave any sort of tip for your driver. They’re the one going out of their way to deliver almost 20 bags worth of wings. Maybe this company doesn’t understand that these drivers don’t make a lot of money and they depend on tips.
On top of the drama Nathan dealt with from this company refusing to tip, they proceeded to also give him a bad review on DoorDash. Why? As he says, “I took an extra five minutes to put the bags in my car.” It’s actually quite baffling. Nathan points to the order and tells his audience, “Don’t be like this.”
One commenter hilariously noted, “A bag full of wings should’ve been your tip.” Another pointed out, “Company card, they can def pay the 15% tip at least. My company lets me do up to 20% for the tip.” Anything less seems like a slap to the face.
