The Walking Dead has added Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them star Dan Fogler to the cast.
The 41-year-old actor will appear in the show’s ninth season, which will air in mid-to-late October. At this point in time, it is unknown what the nature of his role will be.
Fogler is not only well-known for his ventures into the Harry Potter universe but also as a cast member in Good Luck Chuck, Fanboys and Don Peyote. We will also be seeing him in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, The Crimes of Grindelwald in November.
This news follows the rumour that Eleanor Matsuura has been cast as Yumiko, a crossbow-wielding Japanese-American survivor. It’s been thought that this will be officially revealed at this year’s Comic Con.
Earlier this month, it was confirmed that deaf, Tony-nominee actress Lauren Ridloff will play as Connie in a multi-episode arc.
These changes to The Walking Dead accompany some big changes in the story. Season Nine will be the last for Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, who will only appear in six episodes before making an exit.
A similar situation applies to Lauren Cohan’s character, Maggie Greene. She will also appear in only six episodes this season although whether her character will exit entirely is currently unclear.
The Walking Dead has been a cultural hit since it hit screens in 2010. It has been nominated several times in awards shows and continues to enjoy a strong and loyal following. It has also spawned a spin-off.
In 2017, then-showrunner and current content officer Scott M. Gimple thought we could be seeing the series run for quite a while:
We are trying to do 20 years. The [Walking Dead] comic has certainly done it, and I look forward to every issue
