With the release of Exoprimal, the game has been met with mixed reviews. Despite some levels of hype, many were only met with disappointment for Capcom’s new dinosaur-based shooter. Interestingly enough, though it may seem strange, dinosaurs have always been a large part of many game franchises. Perhaps this is due to the success of Jurassic Park, or the mysterious nature of the ancient beasts. Sadly, Exoprimal couldn’t live up to the video game dinosaur hype. To help ease some of the sadness, here is a list of ten dinosaur games that are better than Exoprimal.
10. Lego Jurassic World
Starting, we have Lego Jurassic World. For either fans of the original movie, or Lego games in general, this game is a great choice. While the game itself isn’t the greatest of the series, it makes for an awesome Lego dinosaur experience. In the end, if you want a casual, dinosaur-filled experience, Lego Jurassic World is the perfect game.
9. Jurassic Park
Another dinosaur game to check out is the original Jurassic Park game for the Sega Genesis. Once again, while the game isn’t the greatest in the world, it has some elements that make it worth trying out. For starters, players can choose to play as a velociraptor in the platforming game. For dinosaur fans, jumping around as a velociraptor may be an extremely fun game, way better than Exoprimal.
8. Killer Instinct
Next up is the classic fighting game Killer Instinct by Rare. While the game isn’t completely centered around dinosaurs like the last few entries, it does have a playable dinosaur character. Riptor is a genetically modified velociraptor that was a part of the game’s original roster. Riptor would then return in Killer Instinct 2013, cementing the character as a series staple. Players who want a good fighting game with a great dinosaur character should check out Killer Instinct.
7. Bubble Bobble Series
Taking a bit of a shift in tone, the Bubble Bobble games are another series better than Exoprimal. Bubble Bobble is a classic arcade platformer where players take control of bubble dragons (which look exactly like dinosaurs). The game features many levels of fun arcade-style gameplay and is extremely addicting. Although it may be a bit too cutesy for some, Bubble Bobble is a game that has proven itself through years of success.
6. The Isle
For those looking for a more traditional dinosaur experience, The Isle is a much better game than Exoprimal. The Isle is an open-world multiplayer dinosaur sandbox game where players take control of dinosaurs trying to survive on an island. Players will need to navigate a harsh and cruel ecosystem to survive as their favorite dinosaurs. In terms of games purely about dinosaurs, The Isle is one of the best games to date.
5. Fossil Fighters Series
Next is the underappreciated classic Fossil Fighters. This game is one of our absolute favorites and well worth checking out over Exoprimal. The games center around reviving ancient dinosaur fossils and using them to battle. The RPG style and collectible dinosaurs have invited many comparisons to the Pokemon series. In the end, this is a great series to check out for those looking for an RPG about dinosaurs.
4. Monster Hunter Series
Although there are no dinosaurs in this game exactly, Monster Hunter is a great series to play if you want to fight some fierce, dinosaur-adjacent foes. In Monster Hunter, players are tasked with taking on massive monsters in action-RPG-style combat. As many fans of the series know, many of the monsters of the game are very heavily inspired by dinosaurs. This includes the Anjanath, one of our personal favorites, which is a fire-breathing T-Rex.
3. Dino Crisis Series
Next up is the classic horror franchise Dino Crisis, another great game that is a better choice over Exoprimal. Each game features the outbreak of dinosaurs. The game has very similar gameplay to Capcom’s other classic franchise, Resident Evil. Players will need to survive the dinosaur infestation with limited resources and maneuverability. Overall, Dino Crisis is an excellent series that deserves its cult following.
2. Ark: Survival Evolved
One of the best games that handles human-dinosaur interaction better than Exoprimal is Ark: Survival Evolved. In this survival game, players will need to survive on an island inhabited by dinosaurs and other ancient creatures. Additionally, players can tame dinosaurs and fight with them in battle or use them to transport resources. In the end, Ark is a nearly perfect dinosaur game that players should try over Exoprimal.
1. The Turok Series
Finally, the best dinosaur games of all time are the Turok series, which is loosely based on a comic of the same time and far better than Exoprimal. Players will need to fight off legions of dinosaurs and enemies in first-person shooter combat. Although the game has aged a bit, being an N64 game, it is still a very enjoyable game to play today.
