After waiting for so long, winning the Most Anticipated Game twice in a row in The Game Awards, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring was released not long ago, and it has already created the buzz for becoming the Game of the Year. Elden Ring is fun for many reasons, like an enormous world filled with endless content and items or its hard and engaging combats. Whatever the reason, you might want to play other games like Elden Ring. So here are 10 games to play if you liked playing Elden Ring.
Souls Series
If you enjoyed playing Elding Ring, without any hesitation, play the predecessors of this game. Souls series included the Dark Souls series and Demon’s Souls, which the remake version of it was released exclusively for PS5 in 2020. Elding Ring is the latest evolved version of Souls game set in an open-world setting. Like Elden Ring, you will have the freedom to choose your fighting style by choosing a different variant of characters. Not to mention that the Souls series, especially Dark Souls, is considered as one of the best games ever made due to its unique characteristics and minimalistic storytelling.
Ghost of Tsushima
One of the most popular classes in Elden Ring is Samurai. Slaying monsters with katana is undeniably fun, but becoming a true samurai and following the path of a true Ronin is engaging. Sucker Punch‘s historic action-adventure, Ghost of Tsushima, is considered one of the best games that portray the samurai lifestyle in the best way possible. Players will take control of a prince named Jin Sakai on a quest to free Tsushima Island from the Mongolian invaders. Players have the option to become a ghost and slay enemies stealthily or follow the path of a noble samurai and face every single enemy. Ghost of Tsushima is one of the most beautiful games ever made that you will find yourself spending hours trying to take pictures of its beauty.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Witcher 3 is not only one of the best action RPG games but one of the best games ever made. It is the ending of Geralt of Rivia’s epic adventure, facing the legendry Wild Hunt to save his daughter, Ciri. Like Elden Ring, players will face many huge and dangerous monsters that need to be studied beforehand and make the right preparations. Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has one of the biggest and richest maps between open-world action-adventure games, which is filled with many collectible items and mini side quests that would keep you busy for many hours without taking any main quests.
Monster Hunter World
One of the many reasons Elden Ring is gorgeous and still feels fresh is each boss and monster’s genius and artistic design. If you love the game for its monsters, there is no better option than Monster Hunter World. It’s an action role-playing game where players take control of a hunter that they can customize and name, then hunt monsters through several environmental places that can kill or trap monsters and gain rewards for it. It is most fun when you play it online with your friends.
Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice
Ghost of Tsushima is a great samurai game with lovely and addictive gameplay. Still, the big difference between it and Elden Ring is that Tsushima is far too easy in comparison. If you want to have a similar experience but with the difficulty of Elden Ring, it is best to play the previous game made by FromSoftware, Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice. Players will take control of a Shinobi named Wolf in quest of revenge after his lord was kidnapped. The game is filled with fast-paced, glorious, and pint-point fights with groups of enemies and tough boss fights. Shadow Die Twice is the best option to see if you are a true samurai as you were in Elden Ring.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Elden Ring’s world and structure feel so immersive and alive because it was inspired by one of the best games ever made, Breath of the Wild. This game changed the structure of how to make an action-adventure game, and there is no open-world game that was released after the release of Breath of the Wild that was not inspired by it. Players are free to explore every inch of the map from the beginning, and the order that you find things and do quests directly affects the world. It’s not as hard as any Souls-like game, but you will be shocked at how much the structure of this game inspired Elden Ring.
Nioh 2
Yet another samurai game similar to Elden Ring, but unlike Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh 2 is considered as a Souls-like game. Set in the 1500s Japans, players will take control of a Shifting named Hide that is set to save the world from demons and other monsters. The game has many similarities to Elden Ring, like its combat systems and RPG mechanisms. Players can choose from various weapons that will suit them better in fights. If you want to play another game with a samurai class like Elden Ring but set in the old Japan, then Nioh 2 is the best option.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
Set between the events of The Hobbits and The Lord of the Rings, Shadow of War is the second installment of the Middle-Earth series developed by Monolith Productions. Shadow of War is very much like Elden Ring in terms of exploring RPG mechanisms but not as hard as the Elden Ring. Like in the previous game, players will take control of Talion is half possessed by the spirit of elf lord Celebrimor set on a journey to make a new Ring of Power. The other mutual feature between Elden Ring and Shadow of War is their rich lore, making the game world much more alive and touchable.
Shadow of the Colossus
Even though Shadow of the Colossus was released in 2005, its unique storytelling style is still very fresh and unrepeatable. Like every Souls game, the story of Shadow of the Colossus is told in a very minimalistic and symbolic way. Players need to explore, study, and pay attention to every little detail they see in the game’s design. There are 16 Colossi in the game, and every single of them needs to be studied first and then fought with. Each one of these colossi has a unique design that helps the narrative of Shadow of the Colossus.
Bloodborne
Many believe that Bloodborne is the magnum opus of Hidetaka Miyazaki and the Souls-Borne subgenre. The game is set in a Gothic Victorian-era city named Yharnam that is on the edge of destruction due to the plague. Like Elden Ring, Bloodborne is very hard, and due to its new and fast-paced combat style, it can be challenging even for the hardcore Souls-like fans. Bloodborne has one of the richest lore in the whole series of Souls games, and even though it is set in a dark and grimy setting, the background of each character and place is heartbreaking. If you enjoyed playing Elden Ring and want to experience something similar but much darker and grimmer, Bloodborne and its Lovecraftian horror is the best option.
