Comedy Anime is such an amazing genre. The fact that anything is possible because it’s animated, the over-the-top facial expressions, exceptionally well-written characters, all of this make for a 20-minute comedy spectacle. With everything going on in the world right now let’s take a load off and watch some comedy anime. There are no limitations for the number of anime available when it comes to comedy, so let’s look at 10 amazing comedy anime that you can stream right now on Netflix.
Keep in mind these Netflix anime may not be completely from the comedy genre, it can only have elements of comedy throughout. Also, note that this list is in no particular order.
1. The Way Of The Househusband
The Way Of The Househusband is a comedy Netflix anime that has one of the wackiest concepts ever, it has got all the ingredients to make you laugh till your head hurts.
Season 1 follows the life of a retired Yakuza member called Tatsu. He was no normal Yakuza, he was one of the most feared Yakuza out there, earning him the nickname of “The Immortal Dragon”. But now the Immortal Dragon is retired and has transitioned from straight-up Yakuza to a househusband.
A renowned Yakuza member who is now a househusband, now that’s an anime! But you can’t expect a renowned member of the Yakuza to be a normal househusband. Be it making a small snack for his wife Miku or killing a cockroach, everything is a life or death situation as it is The Way Of The Househusband.
2. The Assassination Classroom
Mixing two amazing genres of anime, High School and Comedy, The Assassination Classroom is a rollercoaster of emotions. The story makes you want to cry, laugh, rage, and even do better at school! The story follows an alien who destroyed our moon with Planet Earth being his next target. The alien is leaps and bounds advanced than anything humanity has on their side so there’s no chance of humanity surviving.
But there is a silver lining and a very weird silver lining that is. The alien is willing to give up on his diabolical plan if he gets to teach at a high school. Yes, you heard us right, the alien wants to teach at a high school. The show can’t get any more “anime” than this.
After he is given the teacher position he will allow the students he teaches to take up training from the government in hopes of eliminating him. An alien high school teacher who plans to destroy the world if his students don’t kill him, now that’s an anime!
3. The Disastrous Life Of Saiki K
Now, this is just a classic anime comedy. Great animation, a main character who always ends up getting in trouble, and a set of wacky characters make for the perfect comedy anime.
We follow the Disastrous Life Of Saiki K, who is far from your average high school kid, he’s the furthest anyone can be from normal. Saiki has a plethora of superpowers. Telekinesis, superhuman strength, teleportation, telepathy, super speed, he’s got all of the bells and whistles. That would make you think he is currently living his best life, but no. All Saiki wants is to live a normal life and keep his powers a secret. But the people who surround him, his friends, his family, just seem to be getting in the way of his ideal life making for some very funny moments.
4. The Seven Deadly Sins
A legendary tale of seven legendary people. An exceptional anime that combines perfect comedy with some of the best action, the best drama, and the best storylines ever.
We venture into the Kingdom of Liones, a place where you would find all kinds of beings, Fairies, Giants, Humans, and so on. The kingdom is struck with a huge war and the people are turned against one another. During the war, a group of seven amazing warriors, titled “The Seven Deadly Sins‘ are framed for something they didn’t do. The sins are forced to disband and escape to different parts of the land.
Years later the kingdom is in trouble once again and the Sins are needed. A brave princess Elizabeth takes it onto herself to find and reuntie the Sins to save her home, here begins her adventure!
5. Naruto
Do we even have to sell you Naruto? Who doesn’t know Naruto! It’s one of the best anime out there, it has undoubtedly earned itself a position in the anime hall of fame.
The story of a young fiery ninja from the Leaf village who carries a demon inside is known all around. The characters, the origin stories, wonderful story arcs, amazing comedy, really do make it one of the best anime out there. We’re not going dabble on and on about the story, Naruto is something every single anime lover should experience once in their life.
6. Haikyu!!
Sport is a genre of anime that is loved by many, hence making it widely popular. Now when you think about comedy anime, or sports anime, Haikyu!! is easily one of the first names that rush to mind. The story of the Karasuno volleyball team and their rise back to former glory is something that makes you roll down on the floor laughing, something that inspires you, and something that makes you a better person!
The writers have put in so much work for the characters. We feel and connect with every single member of the team, this is the most relatable an anime can ever get. Each team member teacher us a story, a story of courage, a story of belief, a story of never going up, and a story of love. Haikyu!! makes you laugh out loud, scream your lungs out, and cry for hours on end at the same time.
7. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
This is an anime that has a much more serious storyline but which also has its moments with great comedy and well-written wacky characters. We follow the Elric brothers, who have had a huge metaphorical plate of “misfortune” served in their lives. The only way they can right everything is by learning alchemy, and that is exactly what they do.
This anime is surely not for the faint of heart, a lot of blood and violence is prevalent throughout. But the fights are just exceptional and the storyline, which mixes in politics, comedy, despair, a lot of real-world issues, is just magnificent.
Full Metal Alchemist isn’t for the average comedy anime watcher. It’s the perfect one if you want to venture out into different genres but still like your touch of comedy.
8. Dr. Stone
Let’s get back to perfect comedy animes. Dr. Stone, a newer anime on Netflix, has been the talk of the town for its wild and incredibly funny concept. It’s a story that you would only expect an anime to have.
We follow the life of a teenage scientist who is far too brilliant for his age. The kid knows everything and anything you need to know about the world. But no amount of genius could save the world from ending. One fine day every single human being on the planet just turned into stone, yes, every single one. This marked the end of humanity as we know it. But almost 3000 years later, our teenage scientist Senku, awakens from his stone form.
The planet has collapsed, humanity has fallen. Senku is now the only human being that is alive on Earth and obviously, the work of saving humanity and bringing everyone back falls on his shoulders. Luckily, Senku is the perfect man for the job.
9. Fairy Tail
Another anime that has earned itself the name of being one of the greats. A wide set of wacky and iconic characters living in a magical land makes for one great comedy anime.
In this magical land, people have different kinds of magical powers, from dragon slayers to ice wizards, it’s all there. And these people who possess magic are to be members of different guilds located in towns. These guilds are entrusted with the duty of taking care of the town and the townspeople. One such guild is Fairy Tail. But like in every case, where there is good, there is bad. Evil magic exists throughout and putting a stop to them is the job these guilds have to carry out. We follow the Fairy Tail guild and its members as they embark on several journies in hopes of keeping the world at peace.
10. Hunter X Hunter
A great anime on Netflix that carries with it a great sorrow, Hunter X Hunter is an anime that hasn’t been completed. The writer went on a hiatus years ago and there is no news of a return.
Putting that sadness aside, the few episodes we have of the anime is just amazing.
Hunters are great warriors who have a license to kill. It’s a license that should be used to keep the world at peace, not something to be taken advantage of. We follow Gon, a brave young boy who is looking for his dad who used to be a hunter. So the best place for Gon to start looking is to be a hunter himself! Here starts Gon’s journey in being a hunter and making new powerful friends.
