Despite being made by the same developers, Honkai Star Rail and Genshin Impact are two very different games. However, with so much creative overlap, a few things, like the characters, are bound to be similar. Although these characters aren’t blatant rip-offs, it’s hard to see the new Honkai Star Rail characters without imagining their Genshin counterparts. Whether this is a similar design, personality, or role in the story, there are a multitude of reasons for these similarities. Here are 10 Honkai Star Rail characters that are way too similar to their Genshin counterparts.
Paimon and Pom-Pom
Even just hearing their names, Genshin’s Paimon and Honkai’s Pom-Pom already sound a bit similar. Both are the adorable mascots of their respective games and are heavily featured throughout the company’s branding. On top of this, characters act very similarly, with the two often making the same jokes, like the classic “emergency food”. Although these two do differ in personality, they’re sometimes a bit too similar for Genshin and Honkai fans.
Amber and March 7th
Being the tutorial figures, Amber and March 7th are another pair of similar characters in Genshin and Honkai Star Rail. While they have very different color schemes and play styles, both characters share a ton of similarities. Both are positive, cheery, and willing to introduce the protagonist into the world. Additionally, both characters wield a bow and are the first characters to join your party in the story.
Zhongli and Dan Heng
Similar to Amber and March 7th, Genshin’s Zhongli and Honkai’s Dan Heng can feel like the same character at times. Although these two have a fair amount of noticeable differences, their mysterious and reserved personalities as well as their physical appearances make the pair almost carbon copies. Additionally, both characters wield a spear as their primary weapons, furthering the comparison. Luckily, the two have some large gameplay and story differences, preventing the two from being too similar.
Lisa and Himeko
For the last of both series’ starter characters, we have Genshin’s Lisa and Honkai’s Himeko. Although Himeko is only a temporary addition to the party, she fills a very similar role to Lisa. Both are large AoE damage dealers, with a more mature and intelligent personality. Outside of their designs and a few gameplay changes, these two are some of the closest on the list so far.
Klee and Hook
Next, Genshin’s Klee and Honkai’s Hook share a wide variety of similarities. Besides both being children, they each provide an innocent perspective to the game. Both characters tend to stay optimistic while creating fun exaggerated stories out of simple circumstances. Additionally, both use fire-based attacks as well, cementing their similarities.
Mona and Natasha
Although they have separate professions, Honkai’s Natasha and Genshin’s Mona fall into very similar character categories. Each of these characters is extremely intelligent and inquisitive and excels in their professions. Additionally, Mona and Natasha are patient with some of the more bizarre characters of each game. Plus, being an astrologist and a doctor, the two characters fill a similar professional research-focused archetype.
Razor and Arlan
Honkai’s Arlan and Genshin’s Razor, despite looking nothing alike, draw a few interesting comparisons. Razor and Arlan are both electricity-focused characters and wield swords. Besides having similar body types, both are younger and have some kind of a found family in their respective organizations. Additionally, Arlan has a pet dog named “Peppy” while Razor was raised by wolves. Despite having to dig a little deeper for this comparison, the two characters have way too many similarities.
Qiqi and Bailu
In terms of looks, Qiqi and Bailu look almost identical to each other. Both characters are small, with purple-white hair, as well as wearing a similar dress. The two characters are non-human as well, with Genshin’s Qiqi being a zombie and Honkai’s Bailu being a Vidyadhara. Outside of these similarities, the pair does have very different play styles, though from appearance alone, these characters are way too close.
Jean and Gepard
Despite being of different genders, Genshin’s Jean and Honkai’s Gepard share many similarities. Jean and Gepard are both strong leaders of their respective groups. Gepard is the captain of the Silvermane Guard, while Jean is the Acting Grand Master of Mondstadt’s Knights of Favonius. On top of this, both characters are strong-willed, charismatic, and have a strong sense of justice. Plus, their matching blonde hair helps finalize the comparison between the two. But
The Traveler and The Trailblazer
Finally, of course, the closest characters in Genshin and Honkai would have to be the protagonists, the Traveler and the Trailblazer. Both these characters, perhaps due to the dialogue options of the games, have almost the same personality. Additionally, both characters can use multiple elements and change freely between them. In a way, the Traveler and the Trailblazer are almost the same character, just in two different games.
