If you thought February’s box office offerings were underwhelming, March should have more than enough to keep you entertained. March has got something for everyone, giving children, adults, and everyone in between an excuse to go to the theaters. There are blockbusters, horror movies, action thrillers, and even an animated film for you to see. Let’s take a look at the ten most anticipated movies coming in March 2024.
Dune: Part Two
Dune: Part Two might be the most anticipated movie of March 2024 for many people. After delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Denis Villeneuve’s film will be coming to theaters on March 1, 2024. Following 2021’s Dune, Part Two continues the story from Frank Herbert’s original novel. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, and Javier Bardem will be returning, and they will be joined by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Christopher Walken. Chalamet’s Paul will continue his journey in the deserts of Arrakis with the Fremen before presumably taking the fight back to House Harkonnen, who killed his father.
Love Lies Bleeding
Next up is Love Lies Bleeding directed by Rose Glass (Saint Maud). It stars Katy O’Brian (The Mandalorian), Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Dave Franco (The Disaster Artist), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), and Ed Harris (The Abyss). It’s a love story between Lou (Stewart) and Jackie (O’Brian), who are drawn into a life of violence because of Lou’s father (Harris). Oh, and Jackie is a bodybuilder. Love Lies Bleeding is coming to theaters on March 8, 2024.
Kung Fu Panda 4
The fourth entry in what has been a great animated franchise is nearly here. Kung Fu Panda 4, directed by Mike Mitchell (Trolls), will see Jack Black (The Super Mario Bros. Movie) return to voice Po, the titular panda. Po will be seeking a successor to his Dragon Warrior title, so he can become a Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace like Masters Oogway and Shifu before him. Unfortunately, a new villain called The Chameleon (Viola Davis) is resurrecting old villains to steal their kung fu, interrupting Po’s quest. Kung Fu Panda 4 is set to release on March 8, 2024.
Imaginary
The first anticipated horror movie for March 2024, is Imaginary, which was directed by Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare). DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It) plays Jessica, a woman who moves back into her childhood home with her family. Her daughter Alice begins to spend time with an old toy bear named Chauncey when it starts convincing her to do violent things. It turns out that the imaginary friend Jessica had when she was younger was much more sinister than she had believed. It also stars Tom Payne (The Walking Dead) and Betty Buckley (Split). Imaginary will be released on March 8, 2024.
Road House
The only entry on this list not to be getting a wide theatrical release is the remake of Road House. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Zodiac) as a charismatic fighter turned bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), the action flick is going to be released on Prime Video on March 21, 2024. In addition to Gyllenhaal, it also stars Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Arturo Castro (The Menu), Jessica Williams (The Daily Show), and professional fighter Conor McGregor.
Late Night With the Devil
One of the best horror movies to travel the film festival circuit last year is releasing on March 22, 2024, before coming to Shudder on April 19. Late Night With the Devil is a found footage film that documents a haunted episode of a late-night talk show. It stars David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad) as the host, Jack Delroy, in addition to Laura Gordon (Winners & Losers), Ian Bliss (The Matrix Reloaded) and Fayssal Bazzi (Peter Rabbit). It was directed and written by Australian filmmakers, Colin and Cameron Cairnes.
Immaculate
Sydney Sweeney’s having a busy season, as in addition to Madame Web and Anyone But You, she’s set to star in Immaculate, a highly anticipated horror movie releasing on March 22, 2024. She plays a nun named Cecilia who journeys to an Italian convent. Things don’t go as planned when it seems as if she’s carrying a child through immaculate conception. That and some spooky stuff happens too. Immaculate also stars Álvaro Morte (Money Heist), Benedetta Porcaroli (Baby), and Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus).
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The highly anticipated sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, is set to release in theaters on March 22, 2024. Following the events of the previous film, the Spenglers – along with Gary (Paul Rudd) – move back to New York to restart the Ghostbusters business. But when the Death Chill takes over and citizens begin to freeze to death, it’ll take all the Ghostbusters – old and new – to stop it. Jason Reitman has not returned to direct this one, with the film’s co-writer, Gil Kenan (Monster House), directing it instead.
Sleeping Dogs
A murder mystery film, Sleeping Dogs is set to come to theaters on March 22, 2024. Not to be confused with the video game of the same name, Sleeping Dogs follows a detective named Roy Freeman (Russell Crowe) who investigates an old case while being treated for Alzheimer’s disease. His investigation might prove that he put the wrong man behind bars. The movie marks Adam Cooper’s feature directorial debut. It also stars Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), Marton Csokas (The Equalizer), Pacharo Mzembe (Wakefield), and Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy).
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Even though it’s not a follow-up to last year’s success, Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla will be back on our screens on March 29, 2024. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is the sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, with the pair reportedly having more of a buddy-cop relationship than an antagonistic one. Adam Wingard has returned to direct, with cast members Rebecca Hall (Iron Man 3) and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) returning as well. Let’s see what kaiju they’re going to reveal at the end of this one.
