Forget everything you know about icon-cluttered open worlds. Dragon’s Dogma 2 embraces mystery and exploration at every turn, and while the game gives a few tips, there are things this installment doesn’t tell you. Some might be a bit obvious and not too hard to discover, but others require a bit of experimentation before you see the unbelievable things this entry allows you to do. Here, we’ve made a list of some fun things you should try for your adventure, and as always, it’s as spoiler-free as possible, so we don’t spoil your journey.
10. Pawns Can Reach Things For You If You Throw Them
If you want to pull off a Gimli, or in other words, the delicate act of throwing your allies to reach new places, Dragon’s Dogma 2 allows you to do that, and it’s one of the best tips we can share. If you see a ladder you want to drop down or a chest that is high up there, throw your pawn. Is a pesky enemy archer making your day miserable? Throw your pawn! That’s the solution, and it’s a fun one. too.
9. Rotten Meat Also Provides Buffs
If you, like me, are a natural hoarder, you might’ve opened your inventory more than once to see rotten meat all over the place. Don’t throw it out! When reaching a camp, even if you have rotten meat, you can cook it. Yes, it might not look that great or taste too good, but it still provides a few buffs. They won’t be as great as the ones you get from aged steak, but they are good nonetheless.
8. You Don’t Need to Max Out a Vocation To Get Its Master Skill
Contrary to what many people think, you don’t need to master a vocation to get its ultimate ability. Some vocations like Fighter ask you to do this, yes, but other master skills are locked behind quests or certain events. For example, reaching a certain area and finding the Thieves’ Guild might be your ticket to learning some flashy new skills. It’s all a matter of exploring the map.
7. Gifts Aren’t The Best Way To Raise Affection
Many of us might’ve hoarded flowers to hand out to all the cute NPCs in the game. While this definitely raises affection, it isn’t the fastest way to do one. One of the things Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t tell you, and a useful tip, is that affection seems to increase more if you take on requests for certain characters. For instance, after some time, an NPC with high affection might ask you to accompany them on a quest. Accept this, and their affection levels will go up to the roof.
6. You Can Use Harpies as Flying Taxis
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen veterans might remember grabbing harpies and using them as a short-distance transport; it also works in the sequel. By using a lure beacon or just having good timing, you can grab a harpy’s legs and fly away to reach higher places. Some places like towers or caves have unreachable spots, so call the Harpy Express to make traversing faster.
5. You Can Burn Grass To Avoid Ambushes
There are certain camouflaged enemies that stay still on the road and prepare deadly ambushes. This can be extremely annoying, especially if two or more foes jump at you and start pummeling you. Even if you’re a Fighter or Warrior, you can die in seconds. To counter this, ignite your blades or have your mage shoot fire to burn the grass and crisp a few goblins. You can say goodbye to ambushes with this tip.
4. Monsters Take a While to Respawn
Like the many things simulating a living fantasy world, monsters play a key role. When walking or riding an ox cart, you might see several creatures waiting for the right moment to ruin your day, or anyone else’s, for that matter. Well, if you defeat all foes on the road, they will be safe from monsters and bandits for a few in-game days. If you want to travel faster and without interruptions in your ox cart, defeat enemies first and ride the cart later.
3. NPCs Can Leave Gifts At Your House
Another thing that Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t tell you is that certain NPCs can leave gifts at your doorstep, provided you own a house in the game. So far, we’ve found two purchasable homes; one is tied to a quest, while the other can be bought for a high price. In both cases, NPCs that have a high affinity toward you will stick items to your door. Some may leave ferrystones, crafting materials, and more. So, don’t forget to visit your place occasionally to see the tributes your followers bring.
2. Seeker’s Tokens Carry Over to New Game Plus
Of all the things you can collect in the game, Seeker’s Tokens are among the most challenging to find. Imagine starting a new game plus and having to look for all of them again. Thankfully, that isn’t the case. Any tokens you collected in previous playthroughs will carry over, meaning you can work your way to unlock one of the game’s most beautiful outfits.
1. There’s a Reason Why The Game’s Titles Don’t Say Dragon’s Dogma 2
This might contain heavy spoilers, but if you have a keen eye, you might’ve noticed the game’s loading screen only says ‘Dragon’s Dogma.’ There’s a reason for that, and it’s tied to the main quest, so, if possible, we encourage you to experiment during the final showdown. That’s all we can say without ruining the surprise, but the game rewards those with a curious mind.
These are just some of the mysteries the ever-changing world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 holds. So, we recommend taking as many detours as possible and exploring every nook and cranny. Who knows? You might find a great reward or a powerful foe to beat.
