With the release of the new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, so begins the era of the X-Men returning to the big screen to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Technically, it started with that post-credits scene in The Marvels, but it seems like the Merc with a Mouth’s latest film is going to truly bridge the gap. While it will likely be a lot of fun to watch Deadpool interact with one of his most iconic X-buddies, Wolverine, Wade Wilson’s history with the team is long and covers a lot more characters. Here are some other X-Men Deadpool should meet at some point in the future.
10. Gambit
One could say there are similarities between Gambit and Deadpool in that they both have dirty minds, Deadpool’s just comes out far less filtered whereas Remy LeBeau is certainly what has often been described as more of a smooth talker. They’ve crossed paths a number of times in the comics including an entire series dedicated to the two called Gambit V Deadpool. Gambit missed out on ever getting his own solo film back in the day, maybe there’s a Gambit/Deadpool movie in the cards for the future?
9. Talon
In a way, Laura Kinney AKA Talon (Formerly X-23 and yet another Wolverine) almost certainly will cross paths with Wade Wilson in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie. She won’t literally be there, it’s just incredibly unlikely given Deadpool’s history that there won’t be at least one or two fourth-wall-breaking references to Logan at some point during the runtime. It would be great to see them onscreen together, as well, although how Kinney might factor into any future X-Men-related content is uncertain since the nature of Wolverine returning is still up in there right now.
8. Warpath
Putting Warpath on this list might be a little dishonest. While he’s been an X-Man plenty throughout his comics run, his interactions with Deadpool tend to be centralized in the X-Force comics. Still, this is a mutant who Deadpool should absolutely meet on the big screen for a number of reasons. Firstly because Warpath just hasn’t been spotlighted enough outside of the comics to begin with. One cameo in the Days of Future Past movie is not enough for James Proudstar. Secondly, Warpath is one of the oldest teammates Wade Wilson’s ever had with whom he hasn’t appeared in a movie yet. Cable and Domino got their day in the sun. Where’s Warpath?
7. Cannonball
This one’s pretty similar to Warpath. Cannonball has teamed up with Deadpool a number of times through X-Force but didn’t make an appearance on the X-Force team that’s formed in Deadpool 2. Of course, that’s probably for the best since the vast majority of those X-Force members die in various unique and terrible ways (Justice for Shatterstar), but the fans still need to see the Southern wall breaker cross paths on screen with Wade Wilson. Charlie Heaton’s version of Cannonball that appears in the New Mutants movie has a uniquely dark air about him that would likely be funny to see clash with Deadpool’s personality.
6. Storm
The lightning-throwing occasional leader of the X-Men Ororo Munroe tolerates Deadpool’s constant remarks about as well as someone even vaguely familiar with Storm as a character might expect. Similar to characters like Wolverine and Cable, that stern attitude bounces off of Wade Wilson so well and has provided for some iconic moments in their comic interactions. Storm has unfortunately always been a bit too sidelined in the X-Men films, so hopefully, she’ll play a larger role in the upcoming MCU X-Men content and will clash with Deadpool a bit as a result.
5. Psylocke
Another iconic member of the X-Men but also a regular member of the X-Force in the past, Psylocke and Deadpool have a long history together. Both Psylocke’s, too, and if that’s confusing to anyone unfamiliar with Psylocke’s history then don’t worry about it. It’s such a notoriously confusing (and possibly offensive) part of Psylocke’s character (Characters?) that Deadpool even called it out during an issue of X-Men ’92 back in 2022. Still, Psylocke is someone who’s not afraid to throw Wade’s crap right back at him, and that makes her one of the X-Men Deadpool should meet on the big screen.
4. Rogue
The X-Woman and wife to the aforementioned Gambit famously became one of the only Marvel superheroes to kiss Deadpool during the Rogue and Gambit series written by Kelly Thompson back in 2018. Remember that mention of Deadpool and Gambit having similar minds? Well, Anna Marie seems to think so, and Deadpool became a romantic tension for her during the marriage-testing series as a result. Honestly, before Rogue and Deadpool meet on screen, she and Gambit need to meet first. It’s one of the most iconic X-Couples of all time and fans have still only ever seen Rogue and Iceman in the movies.
3. Fantomex
Similar to Warpath, it’s cheating a little bit to consider Fantomex a member of the X-Men when he’s far more known (Especially when considering his Deadpool interactions) to be a member of the X-Force. He has spent brief periods as an X-Man, though, and all the X-Teams are really just an extension of that anyway. Fantomex is another one of those characters Deadpool just loves to mess with, giving the pair the kind of love-hate relationship that’s just impossible not to enjoy and making him one of the most important X-Men Deadpool should meet. Fantomex has yet to make his way into any kind of movie adaptation but will hopefully show up at some point during the X-Men‘s MCU run.
2. Cyclops
The chemistry between Wade Wilson and Scott Summers should be obvious for anyone who’s familiar with why the chemistry between Wade and Scott’s son Nathan Summers AKA Cable works so well. Cyclops is intense, stoic, and unwavering in his beliefs. Deadpool loves to take things like that and throw it directly back in Summers’ face. Since Cyclops is almost a given as a major player, if not the leader, of the new MCU X-Men team, there may be an inevitable clash with Deadpool on the way.
1. Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler is known as the wise-cracking funny man of the X-Men most of the time, but that doesn’t mean he and Deadpool are exactly great buddies. Where Kurt’s sense of humor is more light-hearted, Wade’s is more abrasive, dark, and irreverent, something that naturally rubs the devout blue catholic Nightcrawler the wrong way in most scenarios where they’ve been face-to-face and it makes him one of the highest on the list of X-Men Deadpool should meet. It’s pretty funny to watch them both try to one-up each other most of the time or to note the difference in where Nightcrawler and Deadpool choose to draw the line between serious and joking matters.
