No matter what’s going on in the country at any given moment, one thing we all need is the comfort of knowing our jobs are there and will always be. This hasn’t always been the case recently. Tariffs and rapid industry-wide changes across many areas, especially with the new regime, have caused uncertainty. Folks in Minnesota are about to find this out for themselves.CentraCare workers are now in the same situation, as one of them shared that they’ve been warned of mass layoffs that will hit just before the weekend.
In a post shared to the Minnesota Reddit page by user erwin4200, an email warning was shown by a worker at CentraCare hospital that went out to all 10,000 team members. In a statement to Fox9 News, they said the following:
CentraCare is responding to significant external pressures including rising costs and reimbursement rates that no longer cover the true cost of care. To safeguard the organization’s stability and to continue delivering high-quality care, we have made difficult but necessary staffing adjustments. These changes were carefully considered and mostly affect administrative and support roles, though some patient care positions were also impacted… While difficult, making these adjustments now will strengthen CentraCare’s foundation to remain a trusted healthcare partner. We look forward to continuing to serve our communities with compassion and excellence for many years to come.
Many folks were highly upset at the news, considering the hospital still earns a lot of revenue and, in reality, likely doesn’t need to cut anybody. Here is what some folks had to say about it.
“Allina Health is shutting down four of their clinics – Maplewood, Oakdale, Nicollet mall, and Inver Grove Heights in November.”
“Everyone should call Tom Emmer’s office and demand that he answer for this. He pushed to slash healthcare and now it’s costing hundreds of jobs from one of the biggest employers in his district.”
“Everything is going to come to a head soon when half the hospitals in the country close. There will be a reckoning with the insurance industry.”
As you can see, workers for CentraCare are upset, and they have confirmed they are cutting 535 employees across 44 different locations. This is why voting matters, folks. Let’s hope the remaining staff can manage all of the community’s needs without being overworked.
