It seems the Marvel TV Train is far from out of steam as Netflix a spin-off show featuring the Punisher. While the character was originally slated to join the upcoming second season of Daredevil, the leather clad gun appears to be getting his own series. The character of the Punisher will be reprised by Walking Dead veteran Jon Bernthal in both Daredevil and this unnamed spin-off show. Showrunner Doug Petrie told Entertainment Weekly in regards to Daredevil that the character will be introduced quite rapidly. Petrie notes, “The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in…We can hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.” He went on to explain that the overall performance by Bernthal has been generally well-received stating “Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people to second-guess themselves.”
Though it has been directly confirmed by either Marvel or Netflix, TVLine is reporting that the Punisher series is already in development. One can only guess that the series would launch sometime over early fall. Sadly no further information has been announced regarding a Punisher series but stay tuned here for any more developments with either the new Daredevil season or this spin-off show. Daredevil season 2 is set to release March 18th this year.
