If you live in Fresno, California, and your Dodge or Jeep was stolen, there might be some good news for you. However, you’ll have to accept that your car is likely in pieces, thanks to the chop shop ring it might have been sent to. Police in California have managed to bust a chop shop that was stealing cars and then destroying them to sell their parts for a profit. That would have worked really well, except for the part where they got caught.
The bust happened at two shops in Freso and Huntington Park, where the culprits either sold or were in possession of $3 million in stolen goods over the course of six months. Seven suspects were arrested on 110 felony counts, but as the investigation continues, more suspects will likely be arrested. Unfortunately, the 75 cars that were located had been stripped of their parts and could not be returned to their original owners.
“Good ! We have 2 cars stolen from San Joaquin General hospital while my husband was going through Residency Rotation , lock these looser up ! Lowlife!”
It’s not clear what will happen to the confiscated parts, though it’s possible that they will be auctioned with proceeds going towards victims who lost their cars. However, I don’t see anyone making a ton of money that way. It’s also unclear if the any of the confiscated $3 million will be given to victims either.
The chop shop ring is probably part of a much larger automotive sales ring in California, though that information has not been disclosed yet. The shops exclusively stole and sold Dodge Durango Hellcats, Infiniti models, Chevrolet Cameras, Challengers, and Trackhawk models.
I’m not big into cars, but I can understand what it means when specialists focus on a specific type of thing. The shops seemed incredibly active during their time selling parts, though it’s possible that this activity is what ticked officers off to look closer into them.
