SEGA has announced that a remastered version of the original Valkyria Chronicles is coming to the west in 2016.
Previously Announced for Japan only, the title will smooth out the games stunning, anime-like graphics, and up the resolution to 1080p and run at 60 FPS. The package will also include all of the games previously released DLC. This will give players access to the EX hard mode and a variety of challenge missions right off the bat.
Valkyria Chronicles follows a group of young soldiers as they struggle with the hardships of war, using every tactic they can think of to outsmart and outgun their enemies. When it was originally released in 2008, it garnered a large amount of critical praise thanks to its beautiful graphics and smart strategy gameplay.
The game was released for PC in 2014. It was largely a straight port of the original, but its release brought new fans to the franchise. The renewed interest in the series led to the announcement of Valkyria Chronicles: Azure Revolution, which is set to release in Japan in Q4 2016 exclusively for PS4.
Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is set to release in Japan on February 10th, but no western release date is currently known. It is set to release sometime in the spring for $30 USD.
