A new Super Smash Bros. may very well be on the way. Bandai Namco is apparently working on a new entry in the crossover fighting franchise.
The new game is rumoured to be an NX launch title according to Dr. Serkan Koto, CEO of Tokyo-based consulting firm Katan Games. He took to Twitter today, saying “Bandai Namco is currently developing several NX titles. Smash Bros is planned to be a launch title. I am not sure about the date.”
No word yet on what the other titles are, or if they will also be ready for the release of Nintendo’s new console. They could be more crossover games like Hyrule Warriors, or classic Bandai Namco games could lead the third party charge on NX.
Bandai Namco assisted in the development of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U. This partnership with Nintendo led to Pacman’s inclusion in the title as a fighter, as well as a number of other Bandai Namco titles making their way exclusively to Nintendo systems. They oversaw development of Hyrule Heroes and Ace Combat Assault Horizon legacy + had exclusive features on New 3DS.
No rumour of launch date for Smash Bros. accompanied the rumour of the game’s existence, nor did the whispers say whether or not it will be a full-fledged sequel. There is the possibility that Super Smash Bros. Wii U could come to the new system, with updated graphics and perhaps even new characters and features.
We still don’t even know what the NX really is, so we’ll have to wait a bit to see whether or not these rumours hold any water.
