The reaction to the initial gameplay trailer may not have been the most positive, but the official gameplay demo of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare showed off what the newest iteration in the franchise has to offer.
The action takes place entirely in space, with the player clambering into their space ship and entering into a massive battle. Ships explode left and right, raining down fire and avoiding the debris that aimlessly floats into the fray.
When the player finally ejects from his ship, he floats above a station, using a grappling hook to maneuver the crowded battlefield, picking off enemies as they hold onto the metal hull for dear life. The action moves inside, where the battles are grounded by gravity, looking more like the standard Call of Duty skirmishes.
The space battles looked hectic and very open, letting the player pilot the ship wherever they wanted to. The addition of the grappling hook also makes battles in space much more fast paced and freeing. All in all, it was a refreshing change of pace for a series that is often accused of never changing.
The trailer was followed by gameplay of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. It showed key moments from the campaign and how they looked with the fancy new coat of paint. The remaster is only available for those who purchase one of the game’s many special editions.
