A new Rogue One trailer has been released, showing off plenty of new action in a galaxy far, far away.
The biggest reveal out of the second trailer is the tall, lanky droid played by Alan Tudyk and a quick shot of Darth Vader’s helmet. Besides that we see plenty of ships exploding over war-torn beaches as rebel soldiers and stormtroopers alike tumble into the sand.
The tone is still very much that of a war movie, with the overwhelming strength of the Empire casting a shadow over everything. Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, must gather a crew to steal the plans for the Death Star before the deadly, planet destroying weapon can be activated.
The film takes place two weeks before Star Wars: A New Hope, and explains how Princess Leia received the Death Star plans that enabled the rebel alliance to destroy the weapon at the end of the first film. It will return viewers to the era of the original Star Wars movies, with all the ships, weapons, and factions that go along with that.
The film, as with any Star Wars movie, is currently shrouded in secrecy. Everything from character descriptions to locations is big news. But perhaps the biggest recent announcement is the confirmation of Darth Vader making an appearance.
While the end of the trailer had a brief shot showing the back of his helmet, we’re certain that he’ll get up to trouble in Rogue One. The original trilogy never let us see the true powers of the cyborg Sith lord, and Rogue One seems like the perfect opportunity to show off how strong the force is with Vader.
As the Rogue One hype train continues to build speed, LEGO sets and a Rogue-One-focused expansion to Star Wars Battlefront have been announced. So there will be plenty of Star Wars merch to sink your teeth into this December.
