Spellcasters have a mixed reputation in many Soulslikes. They’re often considered the path of least resistance, letting the player kill enemies from a safe distance and with relatively little risk. Lords of the Fallen is home to three branches of magic, each offering a unique selection of spells. Whether you’re using these to conquer bosses, slay mobs, or dominate in PvP, each has the power to transform your playstyle and deepen an already deep game. There are a lot of variables to consider when evaluating spells, and no one spell can be the best by every metric. That said, here are some of the best spells in Lords of the Fallen, ranked from strong to outstanding.

5. Grieving Gaze

To unlock Grieving Gaze, you must venture into the Fief of the Chill Curse. There you must defeat the Hollow Crow to gain its Remembrance. Grieving Gaze channels the icy magic of that monstrous bird, allowing you to summon a rain of icy shards from the sky. This spell has solid DPS for its 80 Mana cost, making it ideal for clearing groups of enemies, something that matters more here compared to Elden Ring and similar titles. It’s less useful for PvP, and as an Umbral spell, it also has stricter requirements than most other magic. You’ll need 25 Radiance and 25 Inferno to use this magic, but if you do, you’ll understand what makes this one of the best spells in Lords of the Fallen.

4. Magma Surge

Unlocking Magma Surge requires you to defeat and claim the Remembrance of the Spurned Progency. Taking down that massive boss is no easy feat, but those who accomplish it will be rewarded with one of the best Inferno spells in the game. Magma Surge creates an explosive surge of magma from the ground, damaging any targets unfortunate enough to be caught in the blast. In addition to an Inferno catalyst, you’ll need 30 Inferno to use this spell. That puts it out of reach for all except dedicated Inferno builds, but if you’ve already developed your fire-wielding powers that much, this spell should absolutely be in your repertoire.

3. Infernal Guardian

Dedicated pet classes aren’t really a thing in Lords of the Fallen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring some beastly critters to the battlefield. The Infernal Guardian is one of them, and with a Mana cost of 52, you’ll likely have magic left over for other spells once your pet is on the field. The Infernal Guardian has two qualities that make it exceptional. First, its attacks cause Burn buildup. If you were already running a magic Burn build, that already makes Infernal Guardian one of the best spells in Lords of the Fallen. The good news doesn’t end there, though. The Infernal Guardian’s fire bolts home on enemies within range. That makes avoiding them difficult, especially if you’re harassing them with other spells or throwables at the same time.

2. Consecrate

There are a number of great AoE spells in Lords of the Fallen, but Consecrate is arguably the best. Consecrate blesses the ground itself, damaging any enemies who tread upon its holy sigil. That makes it ideal for area control. With this spell, you can bait mobs into killing themselves or deal serious damage to bosses. In PvP, you can even zone out your opponents, forcing them into losing positions. You’ll need 22 Radiance to use this spell, but that’s nothing compared to the 120 Mana you need to cast it. It’s a punishing cost but well worth it in the right hands. Though some players will prefer more spammable spells, Consecrate is as devastating as it is costly.

1. Blessed Reflections

Many players have strong feelings about the Pieta boss fight. That’s no surprise, considering her difficulty and status as the game’s first true boss. Whether you loved the challenge or hated every second of facing this avenging angel, claiming her Remembrance is deeply satisfying. Even more satisfying is using that Remembrance to gain one of Pieta’s own powers: Blessed Reflections. This spell summons Radiant duplicates of Pieta to attack your enemies. These duplicates were lethal during the Pieta fight, and they’ve lost none of their effectiveness in the Lampbearer’s hands. It’s overkill for dealing with most mobs. In PvP and against bosses, however, Blessed Reflections is one of the best spells in Lords of the Fallen.

Lords of the Fallen is available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
