Xianyun is a 5-star Anemo character introduced in Version 4.4 of Genshin Impact, and she enables some of the most unique gameplay in the game. Her unique buff allows anyone in the game to become a plunge attacker, leading to crazy teams that wouldn’t previously be possible. Her character is relatively easy to build, but you’ll want to utilize some of the tips listed below to use Xianyun more effectively in Genshin Impact.
Xianyun Tips For Genshin Impact: She’s Not Just a Xiao Support
My first reaction to Xianyun’s release was to immediately stare at my dusty Xiao in the corner of the room. HoYoverse has done a lot to keep Xiao relevant since his release nearly three years ago. With new artifacts, weapons, and characters, Xiao has always remained bubbling under the surface of the metagame, yet always viable. But Xianyun’s description as a “plunge DPS buffer” intrigued the inner Xiao main inside me.
Sadly, despite also grabbing a C6 Faruzan, Xiao is just about the last character I have utilized with Xianyun. Her plunge DPS buffs are extremely impactful for just about any character who you want to let frolic in the air. Characters like Diluc have been given a second lease on life, while newer characters like Gaming work with her exceptionally well.
Don’t get me wrong, Xiao is great with Xianyun. But the entertainment value of Xianyun’s kit cannot be contained.
Xianyun Tips For Genshin Impact: Pairing Her With Yelan is Amazing For Exploration
Xianyun is a wonderful support character, but she has shaken up the exploration meta as well. Xianyun’s Elemental Skill is what allows her to traverse the open world with great speed, as it skips her along at a brisk pace. What happens when you pair her with Yelan? Your team immediately gets the zoomies, and you won’t have to spare any more stamina for running again.
For bonus points, if you’re lucky enough to grab Xianyun’s first constellation, Xianyun will gain an extra charge of her Elemental Skill, increasing her exploration capabilities even further. If you have Yelan’s first constellation, she gets an extra charge as well. Never walk again.
Get Plenty of Energy Recharge
Xianyun’s Elemental Burst is rather expensive to use, and no Elemental Burst means no leaping into the air and crashing down on your enemies. To make sure that you can consistently fire off Xianyun’s Elemental Burst, you need to be sure to have plenty of Energy Recharge in her stats. One of the best weapons to use is the Favonius Codex, but you can also use her signature weapon, the Crane’s Echoing Call, which provides some extra energy particles.
Another great way to reduce Energy Recharge requirements is by pairing Xianyun with other Anemo units. Anemo units will share any particles they create from their Elemental Skills, which will mean Xianyun will need a little less Energy Recharge. This is what makes Xiao and Xianyun work great together, as they can battery their Elemental Bursts.
Xianyun is Also a Healer
It’s hard to notice while you’re leaping up and down with Xianyun and her friends, but news flash: on top of all the buffs Xianyun provides, she can heal as well. Stand aside, Jean, but the new best Anemo healer is here. Xianyun as an Anemo healer means she can be run into virtually any team, especially with the Viridescent Venerer artifact set.
It also has implications for her team building. Xianyun pairs remarkably well with Furina, countering her HP drain mechanic and making sure Furina can keep her buffs up as well. You don’t have to worry about any split-scaling as well. Xianyun’s buffs and healing both scales off of her ATK, meaning you can just focus on that one stat while messing with her artifacts.
Her DPS Build is Expensive
If Xianyun’s regal design in Genshin Impact has you hoping you can use her as a DPS…well, nothing is stopping you from trying. However, she’s only really viable as a DPS with her sixth constellation, which allows her to spam plunge attacks and increases her Crit DMG. Unfortunately, before this, Xianyun is not effective as a main DPS character, although you can likely make it work with enough investment.
Her sixth constellation has a hefty price tag and can burn a hole in your wallet, so we’d only recommend this playstyle for the most dedicated Xianyun mains. Xianyun will still have plenty of time on the field, so don’t worry about sidelining her for your main DPS.
