Many people watch anime for the fights, the soundtrack, and the animation, but some of us are just searching for the best couple of these shows. While this media is known for its crazy action scenes, over-the-top plot, and, sadly for some, extreme fan service, there are several anime that provide us with the best romantic moments that can thaw even the coldest heart. This time, we’ve taken the almost impossible task of choosing our favorite couples in anime that we consider the best of all time.
Our 10 Favorite Couples in Anime
Before we begin, we must clarify that these couples are our choices. While we know there are many out there, and some might differ, these are the ones we love seeing together on-screen. From character ships to actual couples, they just work together at every moment. With that out of the way, let’s begin.
7. Megumin and Kazuma (Konosuba)
While they might not be a couple yet, they are one of our favorite ships. Megumin and Kazuma started as adventurers in the first seasons of Konosuba, but the ship exploded when the movie came out. The Legend of Crimsom film saw Megumin’s family trying to set up the explosive arch-wizard with the Isekai protagonist. While it led to some fun situations for the audience, the relationship never unfolded, but it remained everyone’s favorite. Yes, many would like him to end up with Aqua or Darkness, but for us, Megumin will always be the best girl for Kazuma.
6. Hinata and Naruto (Naruto Shippuden/Boruto)
We won’t talk about Hinata and Naruto during the original anime because, well, the latter was a knucklehead kid who never realized Hinata had a crush on him. And yes, even as a Hokage, Naruto remains as oblivious as ever, but he’s come a long way and finally settled down with the lady from the Hyuga clan. The Last: Naruto the Movie shows our protagonist finally getting married in a fantastic way that many fans loved and a few hated; we’re part of the former. While many would’ve liked Naruto to end up with Sakura, we feel Hinata is a great choice for the #1 Ninja of Konoha.
5. Miyuki and Kaguya (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War)
No other couple has the chemistry of Miyuki and Kaguya. In a show full of comedy, misunderstanding, and ultra-romantic moments, this couple is one of the best we’ve seen in anime because they struggle with their great love against their social class differences. With the show already over and a movie out that culminated this couple’s adventures, seeing them grow was fantastic. We would love to see more of them in the future, but for now, we’ll have to watch the show repeatedly.
4. Tohru and Kyo (Fruits Basket)
Tohru had always been a kind girl, and it was no different when she met the Sohma family, who suffered from the curse of the Chinese Zodiac. She always felt sorry for all the Sohma, even Kyo, who was outcast by his own family. Despite his lousy character, Tohru suffered for Kyo and wanted to get close to him to help him even though he rejected her because of all the rejection he suffered. This couple is a kind of Beauty and the Beast, where Tohru shows Kyo that her feelings go beyond his curse.
3. Asuna and Kirito (Sword Art Online)
One of the most iconic anime couples of all time is Asuna and Kirito. What started as a harem anime that seemed like Kirito would get all the girls wasn’t as such. He settled down and started a relationship with Asuna despite all the life-threatening situations they had been in. While it seems the couple can’t catch a break, even after the last Alicization arc, they are still adamant about making things work, and we can’t wait to see how well things go for these two.
2. Bulma and Vegeta (Dragon Ball: Super)
Vegeta was something else in Dragon Ball‘s first season, but once Super arrived, he became a fan favorite. Despite being a proud Saiyan warrior, he loves Bulma dearly and is easily the best father of the whole show. Due to their chemistry and mutual love, Bulma and Vegeta are definitely one of the best anime couples of all time. Besides, we can’t forget how Vegeta attacked Beerus after he put his hand on Bulma, and that’ll always remain one of our favorite Vegeta moments.
1. Sakura and Syaoran (Cardcaptor Sakura-Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle)
Among the multiple crossovers of the authors in CLAMP, they present different facets of this couple. In Cardcaptor Sakura, Syaroran is more of a rival for the Clow Cards and for Yukito’s love. But with time, both children realize their true feelings. But in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, Syaoran must recover the memories of Princess Sakura to save her. This is only the beginning of a complicated story of an infinite loop that will last until Syaoran finds a way to end the cycle. He only hopes to be with his beloved princess, Sakura.
With new shows coming out every season, we’re sure our list of the best anime couples will change. Still, these are our favorite ones and some of the most iconic out there. So, here’s to more months of shows full of romance and character ships because we can’t wait to see what the anime industry has in store for us.
