2023 has been a fantastic year for gaming. Several titles are already serious contenders for the game of the year, and we haven’t even hit the fall season yet! All of these amazing games wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the studios and developers who put in the work. We appreciate them all, but it is safe to say that some are better than others. Here are 7 game studios with consistently great releases.
Bethesda Game Studios
Not to be confused with Bethesda’s publishing department, Bethesda Game Studios is famously a master of its craft. Now, with the upcoming release of Starfield, they have an abundance of eyes on them. This is for good reason, too! Time after time, Bethesda has proven itself to be one of the greatest Western RPG developers out there.
Bethesda Game Studios first obtained stardom with their release of Morrowind and has stayed on top ever since. Their only real let-down was Fallout 76, and many would argue that that was out of their hands. Still, after a series of improvements and updates, the game is in a fantastic place.
FromSoftware Inc.
After their two most recent releases, Elden Ring and Armored Core 6, FromSoftware is larger than ever before. Their beginnings were humble, but after striking gold with Dark Souls, FromSoftware has only improved.
Few game studios can say that they are responsible for creating entirely new genres, but FromSoftware wears that badge proudly. After all, they single-handedly birthed the ‘souls-like’ genre that we all know and love today! The recently released Remnant 2 is a great example of a game that took inspiration from the Dark Souls formula – and it paid off immensely.
NetherRealm Studios
NetherRealm Studios’ list of game releases is not particularly diverse, but it is every bit as impressive. The team pushes the envelope with every game release and has done a fantastic job of resurrecting the Mortal Kombat series. They don’t seem to be slowing down, either, as Mortal Kombat 1 is just around the corner.
Hyper for the studios’ games is just as huge as it has ever been, especially with the rumored Injustice 3 that is supposedly in the works. Perhaps NetherRealm Studios follows the age-old adage – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Valve Corporation
Sadly, thanks to the cash cow that is Steam, Valve rarely releases games these days. However, when they did they were kings of the industry. Franchises such as Half-Life, Portal, Left 4 Dead, and Counter-Strike are just a few of the many masterpieces Valve developed. During their peak, the developer consistently put out some of the greatest releases to this day.
The company proved that they are still just as capable as they used to be when they released Half-Life: Alyx back in 2020. The game was darn near perfect, and many were hopeful that Valve was making its triumphant return to the development scene. But alas, over three years later, there is still no news of their next title.
Rockstar Games
A high active player count doesn’t always equate to a good game, but in Rockstar’s case that is certainly true. Titles such as GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 seem to be timeless and are enjoyable no matter how much time has passed since their release.
Rockstar’s track record for producing mind-bogglingly rich video games is rivaled by few. Their ability to craft meaningful stories and characters, along with fully realized game worlds is practically a superpower. If you don’t believe me, take a look at their last two releases. Both of them received perfect ratings from nearly every media outlet there is, along with resounding positivity from the gaming community. Rockstar is assuredly one of those game studios with consistently great releases.
Supergiant Games
Supergiant may not be releasing titles to the same caliber as some of the other companies on this list, but they certainly know how to make a phenomenal game. Don’t take our word for it, because each and every one of their games has over 90% positive reviews on Steam! Their portfolio includes blockbusters such as Hades, Pyre, Bastion, and Transistor.
Hades 2 is scheduled to launch sometime late this year, and it is sure to be their biggest title yet. If it turns out to be as great as we are all expecting, Supergiant will be solidified as a developer with consistently fantastic releases.
Naughty Dog
Naughty Dog rules the industry when it comes to action/adventure games. The company is renowned for their out-of-this-world story telling, and they certainly have the portfolio to prove it. Their story telling is so good, in fact, that a show based off The Last Of Us has a second season in the works.

Little is known about what they have in the works, but they have confirmed that it will is a single player game in the vein of their previous titles. Who knows, maybe it will be an entirely new IP. There is also a Last Of Us multiplayer project in the works as well, though little is known about that either. Naughty Dog has, time and time again, proven themselves as a game studio with consistently great releases, no matter the setbacks.
