In many ways, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a game that holds many hard-to-find secrets. The secrets that Tears of the Kingdom have to offer come in many forms, including story, gameplay, Zelda lore, and Easter Eggs for the player to discover. However, due to the nature of the game’s massive open world, some players may find it difficult to explore enough to find every last secret Tears of the Kingdom has to offer. Luckily, many stalwart players have already released guides on how to squeeze every last puzzle and piece of loot out of the game. Now, here are the best Tears of the Kingdom secrets you may not have known.
7. The Kakariko Village Apple
Starting with an almost completely useless secret in Tears of the Kingdom, players can once again find something hidden under the bridge in Kakariko Village. In Breath of the Wild, players who decided to check every nook and cranny of the map would be rewarded with one apple hidden under a bridge in Kakariko Village. While it isn’t the most rewarding prize for your efforts, this apple is at least a cool and obscure secret to keep among only stalwart adventurers. Interestingly, the developers had remembered this hidden apple and any player who was to revisit Kakariko Village in Tears of the Kingdom will be rewarded with not only one but two apples hidden under the same bridge.
6. Tears of the Kingdom Characters Hold Many Lore Secrets
As many players already know, the Legend of Zelda series holds interesting lore that isn’t instantly apparent and takes knowledge of the entire series to put together. Tears of the Kingdom itself expands on this secret lore and stories and includes references to games like Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword. For example, the first king of Hyrule, King Rauru isn’t the first time we have heard his name before. In Ocarina of Time, Rauru is the name of that game’s Sage of Light. Interestingly enough, King Rauru in Tears of the Kingdom also functions as the Sage of Light. This series is full of secret lore connections like these for players invested enough to look.
5. Lighting The Fires of Hyrule Castle Leads To a Tears of the Kingdom Secret
Another secret that involves returning to a previous location from Breath of the Wild is visiting Hyrule Castle in Tears of the Kingdom. In the original game, this would be one of the last things people do before finishing, in Tears of the Kingdom, players can visit the castle whenever they please. Additionally, intuitive players who decide to light every flame in the castle are in for another surprise as well. By completing this puzzle, players will unlock an upgraded version of the Champions Tunic to wear into battle.
4. A Secret Mask Can Make Tears of the Kingdom Easier
Returning from Breath of the Wild’s DLC, Majora’s Mask once again allows Link to don the powerful mask. Just like in the previous game, this Easter Egg will cause most enemies to not engage Link in combat allowing him to easily pass through some of Tears of the Kingdom’s more difficult zones. Obtaining this artifact is no easy task, however, since players will have to complete the Floating Coliseum to find it.
3. Link Can Be Arrested For Public Indecency
One of the funniest secrets and Easter Eggs in Tears of the Kingdom’s story can be found when Link tries to enter Gerudo Town. Initially, if Link tries to sneak into Gerudo Town while not wearing any clothes, he will be turned away. However, if Link enters Gerudo Village and then decides to take off his clothes while in the village, he will be arrested for public indecency. Link will then be locked in a cell and won’t be allowed to leave until he decides to wear clothes once again.
2. Post-Game Completion Tracker
For many players who aren’t completionists, defeating the final boss is the definitive conclusion of the game. However, players that reload their save after beating the game will be able to continue from right before they beat the final boss. Unlike Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom also unlocks a secret tracker after this, which will keep track of the player’s progress throughout the game.
1. The Cave of Resurrection Has Been Invaded
Finally, no trip to all of the nostalgic places from Breath of the Wild is complete without visiting the place that started it all, the Cave of Resurrection. However, instead of being the sanctuary that had saved Link in the past, it is now a hideout for the Yiga Clan. Interestingly, Link can drink the healing water here to heal himself. While this isn’t the most unique secret in the game, the fact that this location started this duo of games makes it one of the best in Tears of the Kingdom.
