The Academy has released the shortlist of candidates for the 95 Academy Awards. 92 countries and regions were eligible for the 2023 film award show, but only 15 made the cut. Best International feature film candidates include Decision to Leave from South Korea, All Quiet on the Western Front from Germany, and The Quiet Girl from Ireland. Sorry Swifties, but Taylor Swift’s All Too Well short film did not make the cut. Rihanna and Lady Gaga are on the list for their songs for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Top Gun: Maverick. The 2023 film award show has only released the list of 10 categories. The 95th Academy Awards also included candidates for Best Documentary Feature Film and Best Documentary Short Film on its shortlist. Fans can look forward to performances by Lady Gaga and Rihanna.
With Artists like Rihana and Lady Gaga, It’s a Great Year for Pop Singers at the Oscars
Rihanna hadn’t released an album in six years prior to her song “Lift Me Up”. She came back with a bang. Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga (again) are nominees. They all have a fighting chance at winning at the 2023 film award show. Lady Gaga has already won an Academy Award for the song “Shallow”, so many eyes are already on her for the 95th Academy Awards shortlist. The Weeknd snagged an Oscar nomination for his song “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Grey. “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” from the film Avatar: The Way of the Water, is his contribution this time around. The 95th Academy Awards shortlist has many more recognizable faces and box office hit films this time around. There are still other films to name, so keep a lookout for the rest of the list.
Voting is open between January 12 and 17, and the full list of candidates will be listed on January 24 of 2023.
