Into the frying pan

The Super Smash Bros Ultimate community is often a tight-knit one. That’s why the sudden retirement of Elliot “Ally” Carroza-Oyarce last week shook that community to the core. The reason he announced his retirement was yet another gut punch. The Smash Pro, better known as Ally Ultimate, announced he was stepping away from esports competition because several years ago, he had dated a fellow competitor who might have been 16-years-old at the time.

Ally started off his announcement with “sorry I’m late” and then immediately moved into the news that he won’t be active on Twitter anymore and is retiring from Smash “as of now”. He went on to explain the issue centers around another Super Smash Bros Ultimate player, Captain Zack.

The older Smash Pro, who is 27-years-old, said the main reason he was making the statement is that he had lied about the relationship previously. It appears he finally felt it was time to come clean. It doesn’t appear that coming clean is going to be putting the situation behind him.

While Ally apologized for his actions and appears to be ready, if a little scared, to be stepping away from the community, the other Smash Pro at the center of this controversy was ready to return to the public eye. He tweeted, “Hi guys im back. Regarding that ‘situation’, please don’t bring it up to me! It’s been taken care of.”

Hi guys im back <3. Thank you to everyone who reached out to me I love you all. Regarding that "situation", please don't bring it up to me! It's been taken care of, and I would like EVERYONE to move forward. Thank you!

— CaptainZack (@CaptainZack_) July 4, 2019

It’s a safe bet that those who are most invested in the Super Smash Bros community are looking forward to moving past this situation and returning focus to the tournaments and pros that make it one of the best in the world.
