CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, like their card games. Geralt, from The Witcher series, spent most of his time killing monsters or getting pans for old ladies. Some players, though, had Geralt scoping out the Northern Realms for Gwent cards to finish their decks.

Gwent was a card game gamers could play in the open world of The Witcher 3. It was so popular that CD Projekt Red translated it into a standalone game. Cyberpunk 2077, the next highly anticipated game from CD Projekt Red, will also launch a standalone card game.

The physical card game is called Afterlife, which will be designed by Eric M. Lang and published by CMON, a board game company. Lang has some experience with video game adaptations since he also designed a Bloodborne card game.

The card game has players taking on the role of a fixer. Fixers give Cyberpunks their gear and send them on missions. Players have to decide what cards to sacrifice and what cards to buy, all in the balancing act of buying what you want and buying what you can afford.

Cyberpunk 2077 is actually based off a tabletop RPG appropriately named Cyberpunk. Now Cyberpunk will reach into the card game world with Afterlife.

The most recent news for Cyberpunk 2077 came out during the most recent Xbox show at E3. Keanu Reeves (The Matrix, John Wick) took the stage to announce a new trailer, which confirmed Reeves will play a reoccurring character for the game. Cyberpunk 2077 touts a world filled with cyber-enhanced humans where player choice runs rampant.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was widely acclaimed with multiple game of the year awards so fans are largely looking forward to CD Projekt Red’s new game.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on April 16th, 2020, and the card game will release sometime in the same year.
