The much-loved action movie Face/Off (1997) is getting a reboot over at Paramount. Made on a budget of $80m and reaping a solid $245m globally, it’s easy to see why Paramount would like another slice of that pie. This news comes in from Variety, who details the talent working behind the production.

So Who’s Working on Face/Off?

First off, the article says:

“Paramount has hired “22 Jump Street” screenwriter Oren Uziel to pen the script with Neal Moritz producing. David Permut, who was a producer on the original film, will executive produce. No actors or director has yet boarded the reboot.”

So, the script will have a comedic tone and be made in a way that will feel familiar to the original audience. Neal Moritz produces the Fast and Furious franchise. And David Permut spent over fifteen years developing Oscar-nominated Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

Ultimately, the credits imply the over-the-top action and humor that fans of the original would be expecting from Face/Off. However, details are sparse. Could this be a lack of faith? More likely that it’s simply early days.

Face/Off

The Original Face/Off:

Face/Off, starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, opened back in 97. Directed by Hong Kong action cinema legend John Woo, the film is loved by both fans and critics alike. Mike Werb and Michael Colleary penned the script.

The gleefully over-the-top violence and complicated plot steal the audience’s attention.

The report summarises the plot as:

“Travolta and Cage played FBI agent Sean Archer and terrorist Castor Troy, respectively, who each took on the other’s physical appearance via surgery in a complicated story triggered by the assassination of Archer’s son by Troy.”

Afterward, Woo went on to direct Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), Windtalkers (2002), Paycheck (2003) and Red Cliff (2009).
