Super Meat Boy is racing to new lengths, new heights, and a new environment. That’s right! At long last, he’ll be splattering all over your PS4, PS3, & Vita with uncooked, gooey, scarlet goodness. And by “soon,” of course, I mean late 2015.
Says the official Super Meat Boy website of the widely popular platformer (currently available only on Xbox 360 and PC):
“When Super Meat Boy was launched, Team Meat wasn’t allowed to bring it to the PlayStation for very complicated reasons. They hated that they had to alienate the loyal PlayStation fans who desperately wanted the game but couldn’t have it. They felt their pain as PlayStation fans had to suffer for years without the greatest platformer ever made by two guys named Tommy and Edmund. Team Meat was very sad about this, but what could they do? Their hands were tied.”
Now this meaty news is splattered across the web, along with an immense amount of exclamation marks. From the developers themselves:
“SUPER MEAT BOY IS COMING TO PS4 AND PLAYSTATION VITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
For PlayStation Plus users, there’s an additional bonus: The game will be free to play.
According to Tommy and Edmund, they never saw this opportunity to spread Meat Boy’s reign to PlayStation as a possibility. However, after an “arduous path and with a lot of hard work, a little convincing, and huge scoops of luck we are now here today with huge smiles on our faces.”
Five years after the indie game’s initial 2010 release, all PlayStation Meat Boy fans are saying, “About time!” But the vibes are good, and the smiles this news brings are sincere. As one of those rare games whose entire look, feel, and sound resist being dated, “better late than never” could not be more true.
To mark this announcement, this hilarious video was put together to demonstrate in full Super Meat Boy style just how bloody brilliant this news truly is:
