Arise: A Simple Story is an upcoming game from developers Piccolo Studio. The recently announced game from the small 15 person company now has a release date, December 3, 2019.

Due to release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the Epic Games Store, Arise follows one man’s journey through limbo as he makes his way towards the light and, hopefully, eternal happiness.

The game certainly looks much more cheerful than that other game set in limbo. You know the one, Limbo. That game was bleak. That’s not to say that Arise won’t have an emotional impact. One of the founders of Piccolo, Alexis Corominas, had this to say about their new title:

“Arise is an emotional journey through a lifetime full of bliss and sorrow, ultimately a tale everyone can relate to. It allows you to explore the many seasons of life illustrated by evocative environments, and relive memories with the help of a unique time manipulation gameplay mechanic. Our goal is to let players reminisce and reflect on their own lives as they progress through the story.”

Deep stuff, although I’m not sure I’m ready for such an emotional journey, I still have yet to get over season 1 of Telltale’s The Walking Dead.

The announcement trailer doesn’t give too much away at this stage, although it does showcase a few of the (I’m assuming) simpler puzzles. It also goes some way to show just how gorgeous the game looks and certainly piques my interest enough to at least give it a try.

I’m looking forward to seeing how in-depth the puzzles, especially the time manipulation ones, go.

There’s not long to wait to play Arise as the release date is a mere 2 months away. Anyone wishing to preorder the game will also be given a digital soundtrack composed by David Garcia. Mr. Garcia has previously composed for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and has a BAFTA and everything. Show off.

Let us know your thoughts on this interesting looking title in the comments.

Arise: A Simple Story releases December 3, at a cost of $19.99.
