Despite Sonic Boomย being the worst selling Sonic game in Sonic the Hedgehog history (released for both 3DS and Wii U),ย Sega has announced that they will be releasing yet anotherย Sonic Boom game, titledย Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice.ย This might not come as a surprise to those who followย Sonic Boom in other forms of media, seeing asย theย cartoon series on Cartoon Network is doing really well.ย According to their recent press release, the game will be releasedย for Nintendo 3DS this Holiday and will be developed by Sanzaru Games Inc.
In response to the flood ofย negative feedback from fans (especially retro), Sanzaru Gamesย addressedย criticism,ย stating, โThe new title delivers gameplay that enables players to run through the game at top speed, or take their time with deeper exploration and puzzle playโ, with slower speeds being a common complaint from the former game.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice alsoย promises โan entirely new experienceโ built around character abilities and special moves. As you may have guessed, the gameย will featureย fire and ice elements, “enabling new abilities to play out in special character moves and interactions with environments”.

Finally,ย a new additionย to the game isย Bot Racing, “a supplemental game tied to the single player story with multiplayer gameplay.” The new Bot Racing feature is is “purely about racing and speed, where a user will unlock character themed Bots to challenge friends on fast courses or tracks.”

The game will feature classic Sonic characters includingย Sticks, Knuckles, Sonic, Tails, and a new female character name Amy.ย The quintet will face Sonic’s longtime nemesis, Dr. Eggman, and a new foe named D-Fekt.

More episodes of the TV show next year have been confirmed, as well as Sonic Central, a new mobile app for iOS and Android that delivers Sonic-related info.ย ย Sonic Pix, a unique function within the app, will let you get creative by including Sonic and friends in photos you take with your phone.
