Frozen 2 has made an impressive debut at the box office, according to Variety. Kicking off it’s November opening weekend with a blizzard, the movie’s figures iced over all other players on the charts. So, how much has Frozen 2 made? The film has come out of the gates to the impressive tune of a domestic $127 million.
Combine this receipt with the overseas figures and it’s clear the Frozen hype has returned. Internationally, the movie has made $223 million. Therefore, the worldwide total is an enviable $350 million. These results have shown the power of the holiday season’s release. However, the box office results have been quiet this past month, with ticket sales down by 7% compared to last year.
Frozen 2 Hangs Out in the Big Leagues
Frozen 2 has opened in a significant amount of theatres. The movie debuted at 4,440 cinemas and suggests a strong box office turn-over for Disney throughout the holiday season. It is entirely possible that this could be the corporation’s sixth film to make over $1 billion at the box office.
The evidence for this is shown in the aforementioned Variety article:
“Frozen 2 set a November record for an animated movie and secured the third-best start for an animated film behind “Incredibles 2” ($182 million) and “Finding Dory” ($135 million). It also stands as the biggest opening weekend ever for Walt Disney Animation (not including Pixar) and ranks as the first animated movie to hit triple digits in its inaugural outing outside of summer.”
Therefore, from this information, it is pretty clear that Frozen 2 is on an upward trajectory. The film has already passed the box office result from the original’s first five days in theatres and may pass the total sum of a global $1.3 billion that the predecessor made. If it passes this figure, the movie will be the highest-grossing animated feature ever.
So, Disney has had a good run this year. With Avengers: Endgame becoming the highest-grossing movie ever and so many box office smashes, 2019 will be a year to remember in Disney history.
