Today at noon ET, Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale, appeared on YouTube Live at E3 to make a special Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead announcement. In past weeks, hints have been dropped of something else coming to Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and since season three is not set to be released until 2016, fans have been clinging to this news with desperate hope.

And the news turns out to be a supernova for the comic and television show fans.

CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games, Kevin, discusses the new Michonne miniseries.

A new storyline centered on Michonne, focusing specifically on when she disappears into the wild with her walker friends, is going to become a three-episode miniseries. You play as the katana-wielding woman lost in the wild, her pain, and her shock in a window of time that isn’t explored in the comic book and only briefly addressed (thus far) in the television show (the sixth season of which comes out this October).

“This is a real opportunity for us,” says Kevin, “to work with a character that we absolutely adore.” He confesses that he himself and all of Telltale has had a desire to work with her for a long time, and fans can hardly blame him. As one of those rare characters who stands out from all other characters in whatever category they would otherwise seem to share, Michonne is the perfect character to hand her own miniseries and tell her unknown story in such a personal way as Telltale’s.

As Kevin put it, it’s going to be really cool to get to control this deeply emotional and yet fiercely strong woman in a world so well-known for its heart-wrenching strife and tough decisions, where death is not the worst thing that can happen to you or a loved one.

Telltale promises moments of intersection in Michonne’s story similar to season one, when players got glimpses of Glenn and Hersel, that create mystery of how the story is going to end.

Kevin, all I can say is that right now, I don’t care how it’s going to end. (Well, that’s a lie. But—) I care how and when it’s going to begin. Don’t you?

There will be a Telltale panel later at E3. Stay tuned for more updates!
