When Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, Deadpool fans were concerned. As a veritable cash-cow, it was likely that the Deadpool movie series would continue. However, fans were concerned that Disney might not be comfortable producing an R-rated movie. Thankfully, Ryan Reynolds has come out to assuage any doubts about the future of the franchise.
Deadpool 3 and Ryan Reynolds Life
Ryan Reynolds graced the stage of Live With Kelly and Ryan on Christmas Eve. The trio spoke about various aspects of his life, such as his favorite sweater, his children, and a new Netflix movie he’s been working on. Eventually, Ryan Seacrest brought up the question that’s been on everybody’s minds: what is going on with Deadpool 3? Reynolds responded enthusiastically, saying that the Deadpool team was working on the film.
“Yeah, we’re working on it right now with the whole team. We’re over at Marvel [Studios] now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kinda crazy. So yeah, we’re working on it.”
There was no mention of a film rating or a release date. Likewise, there was no talk of whether the film would coincide with the X-Men’s debut in the MCU. Nevertheless, confirmation of the production for Deadpool 3 will likely set many fans’ hearts at ease.
Currently, Marvel has not spoken of how or when Deadpool and the X-Men will join the MCU. After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the company gained the movie rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties. With X-Men: Dark Phoenix ending the previous series this year and no plans to continue with the Fantastic Four after the 2015 movie bombed, both franchises need reboots. However, The New Mutants movie is reportedly releasing in 2020 with no connection to the other X-Men movies.
