The first season of Altered Carbon starred Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi Kovacs. However, Kinnaman won’t return for season 2. Instead, the MCU’s Anthony Mackie will take over the role. For people who are a bit confused about this recasting, Altered Carbon is set in a futuristic and cyberpunk-esque world where someone’s consciousness can be stored and placed in other bodies.

It seems that we’re getting an almost entirely new cast for Altered Carbon season 2. The only confirmed returning characters from the show’s initial season are Renée Elise Goldsberry as Quellcrist Falconer and Chris Conner as Kovacs’ AI companion, Poe.

Unfortunately, the long wait for more Altered Carbon could end up hurting the series when it returns. The first season premiered on February 2nd, 2018 and was nothing short of a major hit for Netflix. Since then, we’ve received some casting news and snippets of what we could expect from the upcoming batch of eight episodes.

But again, it has been almost two years since the first season released. How many people have forgotten about the events of the show or the characters? Will the series be able to attract everyone back into the cyberpunk-esque world without them feeling lost? Those are questions that we’ll find the answers to next month. Until then, here is a synopsis for the second season:

“Season 2 of the sophisticated and compelling sci-fi drama finds Takeshi Kovacs (Anthony Mackie), the lone surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors, continuing his centuries-old quest to find his lost love Quellcrist Falconer (Renée Elise Goldsberry). After decades of planet-hopping and searching the galaxy, Kovacs finds himself recruited back to his home planet of Harlan’s World with the promise of finding Quell. Haunted by his past and responsible for investigating a series of brutal murders, Kovacs is stunned to discover his new mission to solve the crime and his pursuit to find Quell are one and the same. With the help of his loyal A.I. Poe (Chris Conner), Kovacs must now partner with new allies to outwit his enemies and find the truth: Who is Quellcrist Falconer?”
