Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s sales have exceeded EA’s expectations by selling 8M copies.

Fallen Order

All over the internet, you see headline after headline, YouTube video after YouTube video ask the question: “are single-player games dying?”

Fortnite and Apex Legends have consistently dominated the headlines, Twitch, and YouTube, but single-player games have been shining through. Sekiro, Borderlands 3, and of course, Fallen Order came out of 2019 as fan-favorites. The Witcher 3 (of course I’m going to mention The Witcher) dominated not just 2015, but 2019 also.

In their Q3 earnings call, EA revealed that they were expecting Fallen Order to sell between 6-8M copies by March 31st. CFO Blake Jorgensen said that by already selling 8M copies, it has “significantly beat” their expectations, and the game will likely hit 10M copies sold by April.

EA Chief Executive Andrew Wilson added:

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was the action adventure game that fans were looking for this holiday season.

Bring back single-player Star Wars

Fallen Order

It’s no surprise that a single-player Star Wars game has sold well. To name only a few, Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Academy, and Revenge of the Sith hold a special place in many hearts. When EA took over the development of new Star Wars games, many were disappointed that Battlefront (2015) was online only. The recreation of the locations, atmosphere, and sound was nothing we’d seen before in a Star Wars game. But the multiplayer lacked depth, and not everybody enjoys a multiplayer game. Then Battlefront II (2017) came around with a single-player experience. The lackluster, tacked-on campaign was overshadowed by controversies surrounding loot boxes. Later Fallen Order was announced, and, unsurprisingly, many were glad to see the return of a single-player Star Wars game.

By beating their own sales projections, we can only hope that more single-player Star Wars games come in the future. I’m still upset about Star Wars 1313 being canceled.

What would you like to see the next single-player Star Wars game to focus on? Let us know down in the comments!
