Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s sales have exceeded EA’s expectations by selling 8M copies.ย
All over the internet, you see headline after headline, YouTube video after YouTube video ask the question: “are single-player games dying?”
Fortnite andย Apex Legends have consistently dominated the headlines, Twitch, and YouTube, but single-player games have been shining through. Sekiro,ย Borderlands 3,ย and of course,ย Fallen Orderย came out of 2019 as fan-favorites. The Witcher 3 (of course I’m going to mentionย The Witcher) dominated not just 2015, but 2019 also.
In their Q3 earnings call, EA revealed that they were expectingย Fallen Orderย to sell between 6-8M copies by March 31st. CFO Blake Jorgensen said that by already selling 8M copies, it has “significantly beat” their expectations, and the game will likely hit 10M copies sold by April.
EA Chief Executive Andrew Wilson added:

Bring back single-playerย Star Wars
It’s no surprise that a single-playerย Star Wars game has sold well. To name only a few, Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Academy,ย andย Revenge of the Sith hold a special place in many hearts. When EA took over the development of new Star Wars games, many were disappointed that Battlefrontย (2015) was online only. The recreation of the locations, atmosphere, and sound was nothing we’d seen before in aย Star Warsย game. But the multiplayer lacked depth, and not everybody enjoys a multiplayer game. Thenย Battlefront IIย (2017) came around with a single-player experience. The lackluster, tacked-on campaign was overshadowed by controversies surrounding loot boxes. Laterย Fallen Orderย was announced, and, unsurprisingly, many were glad to see the return of a single-player Star Warsย game.
By beating their own sales projections, we can only hope that more single-playerย Star Wars games come in the future. I’m still upset aboutย Star Wars 1313ย being canceled.
