When Day of the Dead released in 1985, it was considered the weakest movie in the franchise and would remain so until the newer films came along. This didn’t mean that Day of the Dead was a bad film, far from it, it was actually pretty great and introduced the world to Bub, the greatest zombie of all.

Day was a good film, but it came as no surprise that the first two films scored higher with audiences and critics. Night of the Living Dead was a revolutionary film while Dawn of the Dead was, and still is, the perfect zombie movie.

Despite this, Day of the Dead has managed to retain its popularity over the years, spawning a prequel, remakes, comic books, and countless references across pop culture.

Now, SyFy is getting in on the act with a television series set to hit our screens in 2021, as reported by the wrap.

Skipping the pilot process, the series has gone straight to order with ten episodes set to be in the making. The series is set to be produced by Cartel Entertainment with Scott Thomas and Jed Elinoff acting as showrunners.

George A Romero, Zombie Master.

The Day of the Dead series is due to follow a group of 6 people as they struggle to survive the first 24 hours of the zombie apocalypse.

Let us know your thoughts on this series in the comments. I’m not sure how I feel. George A Romero was the master of the dead films, and even his last few entries weren’t that great. Not to mention the fact that the zombie genre has been completely saturated in recent times.

I guess I’ll reserve my judgment until the show airs.

Day of the Dead will hit SyFy next year, and we’ll bring you more information, like the cast, as soon as we have it.
