Sheesh, the Star Wars news nowadays, moves like it was flying through hyperspace.  The internet was just graced with sad news around the quiet demise of yet another EA made Star Wars product a little over two weeks ago.  In that report, it was briefly mentioned that there was another game still in the works at EA Motive in Montreal.  Now it seems like we might have gotten our first look at it via a leak on the PlayStation Store.

Leak might be the wrong word, actually.  Considering the various scandals that Sony’s digital storefront has experienced over the past few years, calling this a leak is somewhat misleading.  The information came from a Twitter account by the name of PSN Releases.  The account is a bot (developed by twitter user Luciano Ciccariello @xeeynamo) that scrapes PSN uploads for updates on current games and info and release dates for new games.

This particular game is simply entitled: Maverick.  But the art was uploaded with speaks for itself.  In it is a depiction of various spacecraft; a Star Destroyer menacingly pursues several X-Wings as they fly into the foreground on what is possibly the volcanic mining colony of Mustafar, made most famous in the final climactic battle at the end of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

There is one other thing worth noting here.  In the provided image, the game is called Star Wars: Project Maverick, so this may be just a placeholder title, much like Ragtag was for Ammy Hennig’s canceled Star Wars game, and Orca and Viking were for the eventual follow-up cancellations at EA.

Hopefully, Star Wars: Maverick sees a bit more success than the previous three attempts.  Presumably, since this was scraped from the EU PlayStation Store, we should be hearing something official soon, and the game is close to publication.  Fingers crossed!
