The Last of Us is heading to television
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is in the works at HBO with Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin at the helm. Carolyn Strauss and Naughty Dog President Evan Wells will serve as Executive Producers for the series. Furthermore, this will be the first TV project for PlayStation Productions.
Craig Mazin is a huge fan of The Last of Us. On his Twitter account, Mazin has constantly praised the first game and its upcoming sequel. Back in September, someone demanded that Mazin provide his own adaptation of the beloved franchise. Here’s what he replied:

The Series May Be In Good Hands
Hilarious old tweets aside, it’s safe to say that Mazin knows this franchise. Mazin is also fond of the way Drukmann and his team tell stories. Here’s what Mazin had to say in a statement to THR:
“Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus. Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.”
Turns out, Druckmann is a fan of Mazin’s work as well, telling THR:
“From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of The Last of Us. With Chernobyl, Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of The Last of Us to life as a television show.”
It seems like this is a perfect match for PlayStation Studios and HBO. Although it will be a long time before we see this series on our television screens, we luckily won’t have to wait too much longer to get more of The Last of Us. The highly-anticipated sequel is set to release May 29th, 2020 for the PS4.
