The trailer for Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s upcoming Netflix limited series Hollywood is out now.

Co-created by Murphy and frequent collaborator Ian Brennan, Hollywood pulls back the curtain on post-war Tinseltown as it follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in the titular town, post-World War II, as they try to make it in showbiz, no matter what the cost.

Hollywood, which Murphy described as “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown” when he announced the project last year, is his third show for Netflix following The Politician and Ratched.

The seven-episode series is set to premiere on the streaming giant, on May 1stand aims to expose the power dynamics of the industry as well as explore what the entertainment landscape might look like if these unfair dynamics had been dismantled.

It uses each of its characters to provide a unique glimpse into Hollywood’s Golden Age, spotlighting the unfair systems and biases across race, gender, and sexuality that continue to this day.

In the trailer, newcomer Jeremy Pope portrays hopeful screenwriter Archie Coleman to bring his movie Dreamland to fruition. Still, the journey to “making history” with his film is far more complicated than anticipated.

Hollywood, boasts a star-studded cast including David Corenswet as Jack, Darren Criss as Raymond, Jeremy Pope as Archie, Laura Harrier as Camille, Samara Weaving as Claire, Dylan McDermott as Ernie, Holland Taylor as Ellen Kincaid, Patti LuPone as Avis, Jim Parsons as Henry Willson, Jake Picking as Rock Hudson, Joe Mantello as Dick, Maude Apatow as Henrietta, Rob Reiner as Ace Amberg, Mira Sorvino as Jeanne Crandall and Michelle Krusiec as Anna May Wong, among others.

Murphy, Brennan, Criss, and Janet Mock, along with Alexis Martin Woodall, are the executive producers of Hollywood, as it takes you through the lonely, frustrating, and weird life known as showbiz.
