Dungeon Defenders Awakened, the reimagining of the original Dungeon Defenders game, is slated to leave Early Access next month. More specifically, it will release on May 28th. The release accompanies not only the recent “Summon the Demon Lord” update but also the upcoming “Activating the Goblin Mech” update. Overall, the game feels more complete than ever, and players should feel that on release. Currently, the full release will only be coming to Steam, but releases to other platforms are planned for later this year. The team celebrated with a release date trailer this morning.
When we initially released our impressions of Early Access, we said it wasn’t worth the current price tag. The game was lacking a fair amount from Dungeon Defenders 1, only really improving in some QoL areas and graphics. This release promises to feel like a lot more of a finished product with new levels and enemies to take on. We’ll be sure to check the game out when the update releases and let you know if that holds true. Given the breadth of content added (and being added), we’re faithful; it’ll have been worth the wait.
Now, what can players expect to see changed at launch? Well, the Activating the Goblin Mech update is bringing quite a bit. The biggest change of all being a boss at the end of the second section. This, as you probably guessed, is the Goblin Mech and promises to be a formidable challenge. He’s available on all difficulties, with each one bringing more and more challenges. Along with the boss, there are some new UI improvements and side levels to take on along with a new pet, The Monkey King. A considerable amount is coming, and all fans should be excited.
Unfortunately, not all news here, though, is positive. There are some delays that have had to be made for those on other consoles. The Nintendo Switch version, for example, is being pushed back to Q3 in order to ensure its quality and make up for the lost time. It’s presumed that the PS4 and Xbox One versions will likely be delayed as a result of this, but we’ll have to wait and see. Regardless, people are hopefully willing to wait if it means the game is in a better state at launch.
All around, though, some solid news today despite delays. If you played through Dungeon Defenders Awakened, what do you think of it? Do you think the game will be worth the $40 price tag with the two updates? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
