Disney+ currently has a whole host of Star Wars related content. Most recently it received The Mandalorian TV series and Rise of Skywalker just yesterday. Given it’s a Disney+ game, it’s no surprise that the entire repertoire is on the platform. Either way, Disney believes that the platform doesn’t have enough, as today they’ve announced a new untitled series is in development at Lucasfilm. The series will be written, produced, and run by Leslye Headland. Lucasfilm took to social media to announce the news!

Star Wars

Leslye Headland is best known as the creator of Russian Doll, a comedy-drama over at Netflix. Given the series’ high critical acclaim, it’s clear that Leslye Headland is a good showrunner and will likely prove great here. We’re unsure of exactly what the series will entail, but there are hints that it’ll be a female-focused Star Wars series. Fans have been speculating since those hints were released, with some hoping for a series based around Doctor Aphra. Others are looking for series about characters like Ahsoka Tano or Asajj Ventress from the Clone Wars. We may not have a firm idea yet, but it’ll be exciting to see what the writing team pick.

That wasn’t all that was revealed by Lucasfilm today. They also announced a new feature film being directed by Taika Waititi. The script for the film will be co-written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns, best known for her writing credit in 1917. We’re unsure of the possibilities of the feature film, but there’s no shortage of possibilities in the Star Wars universe. We’ll have to wait and see what both teams pick when their respective projects hit screens. Overall, this is some great news for today given that it’s May 4th.

Are you excited about the Star Wars film and/or the series? Anything you hope to see get adapted by either team? Let us know, stay tuned at The Nerd Stash, and May the 4th be with you!
