Rockstar Games has a history of making PC owners wait while console players are already enjoying the studio’s blockbusters. Grand Theft Auto 5, for instance, took nearly two years to arrive on PC after its original PS3 and Xbox 360 launch. Thankfully, it seems its latest release might finally break that tradition. According to a recent report, the PC version of GTA 6 could arrive much sooner than expected, potentially just months after its November console launch.
According to GamesBeat, Rockstar is planning to release GTA 6 on PC in the first quarter of 2027, between ‘January and March.’ The media cited four anonymous industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans. Rockstar itself has yet to confirm the rumored release window. If it turns out to be true, that would put the PC version just two to four months behind the PS5 and Xbox Series X’s November 19, 2026, launch. That’s obviously a massive improvement over GTA 5, which arrived on PC in April 2015, around 19 months after its September 2013 debut.
As to why Rockstar keeps delaying PC releases, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously explained why it prioritized consoles over PC. He argued that the studio prefers serving its ‘core audience’ first rather than launching across every platform simultaneously. “Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core,” Zelnick explained.

Nevertheless, Zelnick also acknowledged that PC versions of major releases can account for up to 50% of sales. When asked about the potential risks of delaying the PC version, he simply responded, “We’ll see how it works out.”
Nevertheless, no doubt there’s also more to GTA 6 PC than just selling more copies and raking in more money. Recently, Rockstar launched the official NoPixel V roleplay server and is showing growing interest in user-generated content. No doubt that an earlier release this time could help Rockstar test and build a better UGC-based online ecosystem faster — perhaps one that rivals Roblox and Fortnite. GTA Online is also confirmed to launch sometime after the base game.
Meanwhile, there have also been rumors of a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Although Rockstar has yet to announce such plans, Nintendo of America President Devon Pritchard said that she’s not ruling it out. None of this, though, is set in stone. Rockstar has already delayed GTA 6 for consoles twice, and the reported PC window could change as development progresses.
