Sony's highly anticipated title, The Last of Us Part II, is the first major delay due to COVID-19

After many delays, The Last of Us Part II has officially gone gold. With this news, the hope is it will not miss its new launch date of June 19.

In a video message, Naughty Dog Game Director Neil Druckmann said that the game has officially gone gold. He confirms that the games are pressing onto discs, and loading onto the PlayStation Network.

He also goes on to congratulate the team at Naughty Dog for their work on the game. Druckmann also promises that the game will be their most ambitious game to date.

The Last of Us Part II Release Has Been a Rocky Road

The Last of Us Part II has been in the news a lot lately, for better or worse. Originally meant to release in May after missing their February release date, the game became delayed again due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

On top of that, a game centered around a worldwide epidemic is probably not the best at the moment.

While the game was near complete, the strain on product channels and lockdown orders forced many games to delay their release. Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Tsushima will now release on July 17.  VR Marvel title Iron Man VR has been delayed indefinitely.

Along with this, a breakdown of the games’ story was also leaked online. Previous reports were that it was a disgruntled former employee at Naughty Dog or Sony, however, it turns out it was an unrelated third party that leaked the information.

Even though he did not bring it up directly, he does talk around the story leak. He says how while you may have read or heard things online, but nothing will compare to playing the game from beginning to end.

The Last of Us Part II will release on June 19 on both physical and digital platforms for the PlayStation 4.
